The Donaldson trade was pretty much unanimously considered a pillaging from the moment it was made, and that trade is praised constantly. I'm pretty sure I show the appropriate reverence to it like twice a month. I don't really think people are ignoring the Donaldson trade.

Could still move Miller or Gyorko. Gyorko has SS/2B/3B and Miller SS/CF. Would be looking for a SP, good prospect, or very good pick. Also, Romo/Storen

Yeah, this is a good post. AA has seemingly improved a lot from the days of ignoring defense, buying pitchers based on ERA, investing heavily in relievers, and rostering awful players because of character. He's not a below-average GM. But I don't think he's bright enough that people should worry if he leaves. There are others who can do as good a job, or better, and with Shapiro at the helm the team has one of the Presidents most likely to fill the GM chair with a quality guy.

A few top prospects? I'm not seeing prospects good enough that the Reds are going to pay tens of millions of dollars for.

I wouldn't go that far. I don't have an emotional attachment to the team, but I think Shapiro has a chance to build something special, and hope he does.

I hope this happens, more for the sake of interest than anything. It would be fun to watch a new regime shape the team going forward.

Yeah. The knuckleball is a known FIP beater, and there's an effect of Dickey being a great defender. RA-9 WAR is better for him.

And that undervalues him. His defense and pitch mix maxes him a legit FIP-beater, and there's also the Dickey effect.

But for three years here it's been 200+ useful innings, plus the Dickey effect. I don't think you replace his production for a safer commitment than 1/12.

Ripping him? I think he will and should walk away from Price. I'll just get a chuckle out of his public defense of it.

It was annoying when AA thought he could just infuse a few units of character by punting wins on guys like Vizquel and De Rosa, but at least that seems to be a thing of the past.

The thought process here probably went something along the lines of "our rookie manager just oversaw an epic clubhouse collapse that helped tank the preseason world series favourite, so let's hire a guy with a track record of being well-liked by his players". I don't really blame them TBH.
