  1. Is Bautista a much better player than Zobrist? I don't really see it.
  2. Not an obvious fit right now with his likely future position being CF or SS, but in a situation where Bautista is moved at the deadline, Tulo might not be long for this team. You'd probably trade Pillar too, as a 27-year old 90 wRC+ CF who gets all his value from his legs isn't really a long-term building block.
  3. Tim Anderson + 1-2 high ceiling low-minors guys would be a better return than the comp pick. Anderson could be ready to step in next year.
  4. Was thinking that. Would he go for something like 2/9 with a 5M team option and 1M buyout? Gives him a raise on his current salary, and a guaranteed 10M. He's not a great option, probably like 1-2 wins in full PT, but with no 1B or DH in the fold next year it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep him around. After Edwin, the FA market at 1B is just Pearce, Napoli, Lind, and Trumbo, and Trumbo is probably playing his way to Edwin money.
  5. When did BS get full statcast data?
  6. Biagini has the 3rd-lowest hard hit% of 177 qualified relievers at 14%. Probably means nothing after only 15 innings. I wonder if he has a low exit velo to match - visually at least, nobody seems to be making good contact off him.
  7. Wow, he's really bad. Discuss.
  8. Playoff odds are at about 26%. Season definitely isn't over, but it's also not too early to start talking about the interesting scenario of 11 guys on the 25 man about to hit free agency.
  9. I think it's pretty bad. No 1B, LF, or DH. No bench. A RF that's struggling in AAA. Average-ish rotation. Catcher might suck balls. No talent looming in AAA. Weak FA class. It's going to be hard to field a competitive team next year if none of the good free agents are retained.
  10. It's going to be an interesting 2017. With all the free agents gone, the team looks something like: C - Martin 1B - 2B - Travis 3B - Donaldson SS - Tulowitzki CF - Pillar RF - Pompey LF - DH - Bench - SP - Stroman SP - Sanchez SP - Happ SP - Estrada SP - Hutchison BP - Osuna, Biagini, Loup, Girodo That's a bad team with two albatross contracts, a lot of holes, and about $100M committed. If things go south this year, you actually have a decision looming about whether you want to trade or extend Donaldson.
  11. Just a reminder that Betances is available. Needs: blue chip prospects, high end OF, and high end SP.
  12. Hovering around 0.500 would be brutal. There are a ton of pieces hitting free agency in the offseason, and letting them all walk for nothing while also missing the playoffs would be tough to recover from. Encarnacion, Bautista, Dickey, Saunders, Cecil, Storen, Smoak, Floyd is a lot of wins to replace, especially with $85M already committed to five guys (Tulo, Martin, Donaldson, Estrada, Happ), only one of which is above average. It really is for the best that they sell if it looks like the playoffs aren't going to happen. They need assets to actually field a team in 2017. It would be nice if there was a way to rid themselves of Tulo and Martin and create clean slate in the offseason, but that's probably a pipe dream.
  13. Jose screaming after every pop/fly out is getting old.
  14. It seems like Biagini hasn't been squared up all year.
  15. That's really not an impressive core, especially considering that Donaldson is two years from free agency.
  16. Dickey is having the same season he's had here the last three years. There's nothing sexy about it, but he'll finish the year with 215 innings with an ERA in the 3.75-4.25 range, which is worth 2-3 wins. He's not part of the problem.
  17. Jesus Christ, Bautista is a statue
  18. I haven't seen tire pumping this aggressive since ECJF fell for Randy Ruiz.
  19. That sack of s*** black hole can't get optioned soon enough.
