Last year the Jays lost just 41 games by more than 1-run. I believe the second-fewest in the league. They were really hard to blow out! Would everyone really be happier if some of those 1-run losses were 5-run losses? Better record in 1-run games!

That's my point. Would it make you happier if they weren't good enough to pile on and turn 1-run wins into blowout wins? Maybe they could add more blowout losses too, to cut down on 1-run losses.

Frequently scoring 5 runs in the top of the 9th to turn a 1-run game into a 6 run game might have something to do with it.

Maybe you're looking at it wrong. The Blue Jays have been very good the last two years. Beating them has been hard. Blowing them out has been very hard. Therefore, most of their losses are close games, because it's hard to blow them out. Most of their wins have been by multiple runs, because they've been really good.

Meh, most of what they've done has worked out well: - signing Estrada - signing Happ - signing Barney - signing Floyd - trading for Grilli - picking Biagini in the Rule V - Carrera as the 25th man Revere for Storen has been a tire fire for both teams and the jury is still out on Hendriks for Chavez, but for the most part they've pushed all the right buttons.

It just seems like the kind of signing you make in December when you've exhausted all other options. The status of Bautista and Edwin is still up in the air, and guys like Trumbo, Moss, Beltan, Pearce, Morales, and possibly Thames are all more interesting. It would have been nice to not have $4.5M committed to Smoak before exploring all other avenues. Weird timing for a commitment to a very replaceable player.
