He still has three years of team control at a very affordable rate. Some team is going to convince themselves that he's not finished yet at 29 years old and make a better offer than a couple of fringy guys not even in the top-100 prospects.
I think they'd be pretty justified asking for Stroman actually. Both having previous success, both having absolute s*** years. Abreu with the better track record, Stroman cheaper. 4 years of control for Stro, 3 for Abreu. I'm not endorsing that move, but I'm pretty sure that's what the ask would be given the poor state of the team's farm.
