I expected it to be about that much, but what an uninspiring start to the offseason for Braves fans. I'd be pretty disappointed if Toronto just gave him that.

I just saw Ken Rosanthal post on twitter that Edwin signed a 5/145 contract with Toronto and almost died at my desk.

Feels so good to enter an offseason with a 5-man rotation of starters who are at least average. I don't think that's ever happened before.

I think it's obvious to everyone that the numbers change depending on the other moving parts. My point was that a rigid analysis like the one done above, while useful, probably doesn't have much actual utility because we have no idea how the front office values wins at their projected place on the win curve.

I keep looking at Valbuena, for all the reasons you list. I'm not sure how capable he is at 2B, but he's fine at 3B and 1B, and the bat plays at DH vs. RHP. I'd probably also be inclined to see how well he handles a corner OF spot.

If the FO has fairly reliable reason to believe that McCutchen will bounce back to elite level next year, all of these calculations can be waived away by arguing that the 5 wins from McCutchen are wins 84-88 in the next two years, which makes them worth a lot more than 8M a piece.

Well, there are like 4 holes in the team's current lineup rotation.

If he didn't like his role in LA he probably wouldn't like the role he'd have here. Most likely scenario would be that he plays a lot in LF, fills in at 2B when Travis is on the DL, and plays some 1B. Not a bad super-utility type as long as LA sees him as a salary dump, but if he's unhappy with that kind of role he's probably not a fit.
