I don't think anyone really has anything to hang their head over here.
Edwin understandably decided to decline 4/80 so he could test the market. He ends up with 3/65 guaranteed, and a decent chance to get the 4/80 that was originally on the table. In the end, he'll get similar money at the cost of changing addresses, but to a very good and well-managed Cleveland team.
Toronto made what looks like a fair offer in free agency, and it was rejected. They didn't want to wait on Edwin, so they secured what they think is a player who can replace a lot of what Edwin was going to bring, at half the cost. They go from Edwin to Morales + ~$32M over three years + 1st round pick. I think they're satisfied with that.
