You still consider it a weak offseason if this is true?
- Bautista on a 2-year deal that's apparently lower than anyone would have expected entering the offseason
- Pearce on a very cheap 2-year deal
- Gurriel on a cheap 7-year deal
- Morales on maybe a 1-year overcommitment
Still two months to add a backup catcher and a pen arm or two. I think that 90+% of the forum would have approved if asked on November 1st if they'd be happy with these moves as of January 16th.
If it's as reported, will the people criticizing the FO for misreading the market for overcommitting by 1/11 to Morales praise the FO for expertly maneuvering the market by not giving Bautista 4/110 or something before the season?
Two years ago you were here bashing people who were saying that what was being built was unsustainable. Now you're bashing management because they have to clean up the long-term mess that was made.
Agree with you on Navarro. I hate his skill set and really don't want to watch him anymore.
Also, I haven't heard Plawecki's name in probably over a year. Guy completely fell off the map.
I feel a bit disappointed that Iannetta went for 1.5M. He's tough to get a read on, but it seems like all things considered he;s probably a very capable backup.
He projects at replacement level. He handled himself as a 4th OF last year, but he's not a good player. Kind of like when Ryan Goins and Chris Colabello had good 2015s.
San Diego really should have traded Myers after last year. Making an average 1B a core piece when they're probably 5 years from contention seems stupid.
Final list of players on the chopping block for me and available for MiLB/waiver pick upgrades:
Seth Lugo
Ender Inciarte
Adam Frazier
Edubray Ramos
Josh Naylor (prospect)
Tanaka has been worth 6.9 fWAR and 8.2 RA-9 WAR over the last two years. You guys sound ridiculous saying that he made a mistake not getting a risky surgery that would have taken him for at least 12 months.
21 and 22 are Santiago Casilla and Seth Lugo for me, and the prospects on the chopping block are Josh Naylor and Eddy Martinez. Leaning towards 22 keepers, but I like Martinez.
