  1. I wanted him.
  2. It's a minor league deal. He'll compete with Jimenez, McGuire, and Graterol for the backup job as things stand. It's not like there's better available on the FA market.
  3. He'll be in the rotation from the start of the season (assuming health) so that they can trade him after a couple of months.
  4. Probably a swing man again. You have to think Archer, Odorizzi, Cobb, Snell, and De Leon are ahead of him.
  5. Who has Holland? If would suck to have waited over a year on him and then have him sign in Colorado.
  6. Chris Bassitt's #1 comp in the A's ZiPS projections that came out today is Jason Grilli. Those comps are so dumn that Szxymborskskki probably shouldn't bother with them.
  7. Frenchsoup definitely shouldn't have dropped him in BORED. If he hadn't been hurt in a stupid pinch running mishap (thanks Farrell) he would have thrown 200+ innings with a ~3.50 ERA and 15+ wins. And he's a knuckleballer, so you can dream a bit on the soft contact skills.
  8. A few things available from me: - Scott Kazmir or Steven Wright for a 1st round pick - Relievers (Biagini, Rivero, Baez, Givens, Ziegler) available for waiver or MiLB upgrades
  9. If his framing is ok this isn't terrible.
  10. How's his framing? If it's average he should be fine as a cheap backup.
  11. I think it's very questionable if Desmond is actually a 1B. Valbuena has been a better hitter over the last few years and has played the position before. I'm pretty convinced Desmond is a < 1 win 1B.
  12. Broxton + Kazmir for Gio Gonzalez + Gsellman
  13. Jesus Christ. I paid a lot more for him in DDL.
  14. Valbuena gets 2/15. Ian Desmond gets 5/70 (plus a pick was punted), and is still penciled in as a 1B. Is Ian Desmond a better 1B than Luis Valbuena?
  15. I keep Kepler over a few of the guys you're keeping. The rest seems fine to me.
  16. Still no bites on Asdrubal. A reliable SP4 type is all I'm looking for here. Can be an old guy.
  17. I'm craving baseball so f***ing bad right now.
  18. How soon after yahoo opens do we usually do the waiver draft?
  19. Meh, let each league do their own thing. I don't think we have to reconcile DDL compensation with LoD compensation. Also, I'm tired of discussing the value of a guy who died.
  20. Not sure how I feel about assigning a waiver pick. People have proceeded all offseason as though the top waiver picks have a distinct value based on the 1-2 guys projected to be available. I don't think you can mess with that now by giving a pick at he very top of the waiver draft. To me, 20b MiLB is the solution that provides the most value while stepping on the fewest number of toes.
  21. If you're going to go the compensation route, I think it has to be a pick at the end of the first round (MiLB), because if it's any later it's not worth anything anyway and there's no reason to even bother. So given that the 'compensation' side appears to have won, I vote for pick 20b.
