  1. Teams that are trying to win don't let go of guys that can catch and hit. Like, never. There pretty much isn't a scenario where Jano shouldn't be re-signed. There's no chance of a scorched earth rebuild, and he should be kept through a retool.
  2. Baseball was better when nobody had data on anything
  3. Right, but how much input does Shapiro actually have when it comes to personnel decisions, whether player or coaches? My sense is that Atkins would be given a budget, maybe after some negotiation, and then operate within that budget and in alignment with the broad direction and priorities of the team. For example, when the team needed a 3B this offseason, Shapiro might have had to approve the deal that was ultimately signed, but it was up to Atkins and his staff to go to Shapiro with the solution they wanted approved. Similarly, I'd expect it to be Atkins and his staff responsible for identifying and recruiting hiring the various directors (scouting, player development etc...) even if Shapiro is signing off at the end.
  4. I don't really think Shapiro involves himself in the day to day of baseball ops. Could see things working fine if Shapiro brings in a new head of baseball ops from a quality org and continues to do whatever it is he does to convince Rogers to continue spending to the luxury tax and making investments like the development complex.
  5. Atkins is comfortable with slimy. Dude completely threw Schneider under the bus with the Berrios debacle last year.
  6. I think Shapiro will get an opportunity to stay and replace Atkins, if he wants to
  7. Prediction: if they lose today Schneider is fired before tomorrow's game
  8. If Cole comes back and everyone is healthy I hope it’s Stoman who loses his rotation spot. Because it would result in hilarity.
  9. We need to start a grassroots movement to convince Shapiro to flex Rogers muscle with a poaching of Matt Arnold
  10. Jose Ramirez just homered on the 12th pitch of his AB against Ober. Already at 11 HR and 40 RBI.
  11. Would be one thing if they were like +10 in run differential and had just had an uncharacteristic amount of pen meltdowns or something. But this team is getting their asses handed to them. Springer looks cooked, and I have no idea what Bo is even doing out there. And their GM is out there talking about how they're getting deep into counts.
  12. I'm not sure team not panicking can have anyone left after hearing Ross talk impotently about how they're encouraged because they're working deep counts and putting stress on pitchers. I appreciate unbridled fan optimism, but this is an unadulterated clusterf***.
  13. 6 games under 0.500 and -49. It's over.
  14. WTF that Voltaren commercial. Are there a lot of fans who feel like Hazel Mae is a part of their family?
  15. He just hit his 11th - an absolute nuke. Hes going to get paid so much money.
  16. RA - "We're seeing really positive signs with the offense" Reporter - "What are those signs?" RA - "We're getting into really good counts. We're working starting pitchers better. We have been, over the last month, getting into really good hitter's counts and working starting pitchers hard" Please get this f***ing guy off my TV
  17. The problem here is pretty clearly deeper than the decisions made last offseason (Shatkins is 100% right that this wasn't fixable with a few offseason moves). It's also deeper than a choice to value run prevention. The team has to identify why almost nobody in the org is playing to their abilities, and why they've been a bottom of the barrel team when it comes to acquiring young talent and then developing that talent into quality major leaguers. The only solution here is poaching someone from an org that does things properly and giving them the autonomy to overhaul the baseball ops side of the organization however they see fit. Atkins will probably learn from his failures here, go work for the Dodgers for a couple of years, go to St. Louis mid-rebuild, spare no expense on cutting edge nerds, and turn them into a dynasty.
  18. It remains absurd that Springer gets the most PA of anyone on the team
  19. I don't even know if he's interested in keeping the job, but he can probably buy himself another 5 years by firing Atkins, saying that there's been a failure of development here, then poaching Matt Arnold or something and giving him complete autonomy over baseball ops. That would be fine.
  20. I realize that everyone is angry and the knives are out. But there's absolutely a scenario where Shapiro is retained and this team thrives. You don't need to replace the President to fix the development issues on the baseball ops side.
  21. Well, no. But Atkins will absolutely fire Schneider as a scapegoat on his way down.
  22. 6 perfect innings from an absolute gas can This is the kind of game that gets a manager fired
  23. Poor Bassitt, having to pitch in front of this fantastic bunch of losers
