I'm quite surprised about this. He just put another 2-win season on the board, and is about as reliable as it gets as far as being able to go 30+ starts. If he wants to pitch next year, he should have no trouble finding a home at that salary.

It's been clear for awhile now that Maddon's biggest strength is his ability to manage people. Whatever reputation he still has as some kind of tactical genius is probably not deserved. I'd take him here in a heartbeat. -
