  1. All your posts have been negative, so I’m just going to ban you.
  2. It depends on how bad he is. If he's like a -10 3B defender, just go get an actual 3B and get Vlad's bat into the lineup in a spot where he's not going to hurt you defensively. Unless 3B supply shrinks a lot in the near future, I don't see any reason to use a bad defender there just because it's higher on the defensive spectrum. Last offseason, legit 3B were not even more expensive than similarly skilled 1B like Alonso and LoMo.
  3. I just disagree with this Peter Principle approach to the defensive spectrum. Why force the issue when you're crossing your fingers that you get 2-3 seasons of not too far below average 3B play before he gets too fat to fake it anymore? Just make him a 1B, where he might actually be average (or better), and might actually have a long-term future, and go find a 3B who can play the position at an above-average level. The market for 3B right now is dead anyway.
  4. So it does seem unlikely at this point that this is a situation where the victim wants to drop the charges and the police want to pursue them.
  5. Like, why is everyone so worried about fitting the fat kid in at 3B? He's going to mash. The bat plays anywhere. If he can do it as a decent 1B, let him do that instead of spending 3 years failing at 3B. We live in a world where you can go get a Moustakas or Frazier on cheap 1-year deals.
  6. I don't think he's going to become an everyday 3B, and I don't think his odds of becoming one are improved by him being left in the minors.
  7. It's really tough to swallow with Vlad absolutely annihilating AA. Our DH has a wRC+ of 28, while Vlad is at 216 in AA with an 8% K-rate. He's a clear upgrade at this point.
  8. Oh, I thought that might be who it is
  9. How does everyone but me know about a famous actor that posts here?
  10. No, Happ pitched for Seattle and Pittsburgh in 2015, then Shatkins signed him in November of 2016.
  11. To be fair, Pat is 60. Bartolo Colon is a young man to him.
  12. OK. He's up to 715 PA of s*** since coming here. It's May 17th, and his wRC+ is 30. This is not a major league player, and it's time to drop the axe.
  13. Every time Sanchez starts they praise him for the volume of double plays induced. They just mentioned he was at the top of the league with Mike Leake and Brandon McCarthy. You'd think that would be their sign that giving up lots of baserunners leads to lots of double plays.
  14. I’m more interested in knowing if these conditions (especially not contacting the alleged victim) are often given if the victim isn’t ooperating with police.
  15. I feel like Boxcar probably listens to enough right-wing podcasts to have a good idea what it takes to run a show.
  16. - not permitted to drink or possess weapons - banned from a building, presumably where the alleged victim lives - prohibited from contacting the alleged victim It sure doesn't sound like this is going away.
  17. Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Roberto Osuna has been ordered to remain at least 100 meters away from a building near Lake Shore Blvd. W. and Strachan Ave. in downtown Toronto, according to court documents acquired by Vjosa Isai and Wendy Gillis of the Toronto Star. Additionally, Osuna is not permitted to communicate with the woman he's been charged with assaulting after his arrest on May 8. A condition of his release states he cannot possess weapons or consume alcohol. Osuna is scheduled to appear in a court designated for domestic offences on June 18. The 23-year-old was placed on administrative leave by MLB following his arrest. This leave has been extended through May 21 amid the investigation and there is no timetable for his return to the Blue Jays.
  18. Avoiding Super2 isn't about an extra year of control, it's about his third year being at the min vs. at arb.
  19. lol I bet Boxy, Dinger, and J4L19 would have an interesting conversation.
  20. I could see making appearances if it got off the ground. You'd need 1-2 co-hosts that you have good rapport with.
  21. I would definitely listen to this.
  22. Is there another starter in baseball that thrives by getting tons of whiffs on a 92 mph fastball he throws 90% of the time? It's a weird skill set.

    NHL Thread

I'm having a hard time understanding how much of this success is just the NHL having a pretty flat level of talent. It's hard to see an expansion team assembling an analytics infrastructure that's immediately the class of the league. Other teams have relied on possession numbers to construct their teams and not enjoyed this much success.

    NHL Thread

Has anyone read any articles on the process that made the Golden Knights so good? Did they add a bunch of analytics darlings that finally got a chance? Is the coaching staff employing tactics that haven't really been used before? I haven't read much of anything interesting about how they got an edge on the rest of the league.
