  1. Manaea to miss most of 2019. I’m happy your asking price was too high Dinger.
  2. Fun Orioles fact: their net position player fWAR this year is 1.7. Manny Machado contributed 3.8 of that.
  3. I've been going back and forth on how I think he should be handled. If they're going to DH him 3-4 times a week and start him once a week, I think it's pretty clear that he's more valuable in the regular season as a full time RF. But, the playoffs probably change things. With every game being critical, having a legit ace stretched out and ready to go is very valuable, especially in a potential wild card game. And they could probably ease of the brakes and DH him almost every game he's not pitching in the postseason.
  4. I guess that's where our difference in perspective comes from: I have a hard time conceiving of a situation in which I'd find it attractive to bring him back on a free agent deal, especially if he has a great 2020.
  5. Really, I'd rather try him in relief than have him pitching at a league average level as a starter, because a) I don't trust him to stay on the field as a starter, and if he's a high end reliever he'll have more trade value than he would as a 2-win starter with a history of durability issues.

Boro should have had his agent kill that as soon as he was asked to participate. I'm assuming that's what everyone else did, which is the only explanation for choosing a #7 d-man to interview the team owner.

Did everyone see the latest humiliation out of Ottawa?
  9. I think he may have adjusted his repertoire to help prevent blisters. He’d throw a lot fewer pitches as a reliever, so maybe he could use the curve a bigger percentage of the time while still keeping his fingers healthy. Overall, it seems more likely that he’s an elite reliever than an above average starter. And elite relievers have trade value at the deadline.
  10. The Blue Jays lost game 6 of the ALCS by 1 run. Ben Revere had 5 plate appearances. Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion had 4 each.
  11. Time to hire a new junior deputy lineup setter?
  12. I don't think he has any trade value, and the bullpen is a tire fire, so I'd move him there to see how he looks in shorter outings. No interest in another season of him trying to start.
  13. Terrance Gore is a treasure

That’s a great deal for Montreal
  15. 1-10, how much do you hate Rick Porcello?
  16. Holy crap, jaysblue has come back and is going to take out The Drunks.
  17. Once again Rick Porcello has a chance to burn you. If he flips K/BB, you will lose the matchup.
  18. Congrats on the win SG.
  19. I think your lead-off hitter should be one of the 3 best hitters on the team. I don't think it's likely that McKinney gets to the point where he's a top-3 hitter on a good team, but if he does, I wouldn't have a problem with him hitting first.
  20. Josh Rogers might be the worst non-position player I've seen on an MLB mound this season.
  21. I guess I still don't really understand what makes him a true lead off hitter in your eyes. You mentioned high OBP contact hitter with low Ks and speed. He doesn't really check any of those boxes: he's projected at a ~0.315 OBP with a 23% K-rate and has 40-50 grade speed and probably won't steal 5 bags a season or provide any other value on the bases. His skill set looks similar to that of Scott Schebler or Mark Trumbo. He looks nothing like Brett Gardner.
  22. McKinney seems like a very different kind of hitter than the Ben Revere speedster. He’s going to hit for a low average and hope a 10% Walk rate and above average power drives his offence. And he might have below-average speed. He’s not a base stealing threat at all.
  23. The best teams in the league consistently hit one of their best 2 or 3 hitters in the leadoff spot now. How many good teams have a slap-hitting speedster hitting first consistently?
  24. As long as the vets being pushed out are not better players than the young guys taking their place, I just don't see this as a problem. Players will not see a smaller percentage of revenues overall.
  25. Teams will only do this if their young players are on par skill-wise with the veterans whose spots they'd be taking. And if not, teams willing to buy a Mike Moustakas for 1/10 instead of having a replacement-level 20-year old take the spot will be rewarded in the standings.
