    Yes. it is not possible to treat Ohtani as two assets in Fantrax unless every player in the database is also duplicated.

    I've deleted countless posts of his identifying posters by name and accusing them of committing various crimes. I don't believe he's capable of not doing this.

    He's tough because hitter Ohtani's value is almost completely tied to a single factor: does he keep pitching? If the answer is yes, he's not very valuable. If the answer is no, he's hugely valuable. An acquiring team is placing a bet on the likelihood that he doesn't remain a pitcher. I place low value on him because I think there's a low probability he gives up pitching, not because I don't think he's a good hitter.

    Sure, if he stops pitching, which probably isn't going to happen. IIRC he didn't crack the top 250 in BORED value this year in a season where he didn't throw a single pitch.

    This is how I see it too. An arm of that caliber is too rare a weapon to give up on completely, especially if the Angels ever get back to the playoffs. I'm betting hitter Ohtani continues to provide 300-400 PA of above-average production from the Util spot.

    It's an interesting case, because both Ohtanis can't continue to hold significant fantasy value. If he remains in the rotation hitter Ohtani has a very limited fantasy ceiling, and obviously if he stops pitching all of pitcher Ohtani's value is swallowed by hitter Ohtani, who would certainly move to the OF in addition to playing every day.

    So our Ohtani solution turned out to not be a solution, because you can't identify specific players that can exist more than once in our league. Either all players exist in duplicate, or none do. There are three possible solutions to the problem, unless someone sees something I'm not thinking of: 1) Ohtani lives on Dinger's roster and is moved by a commish to EZe's roster for every start. 2) Dinger and EZe work out a trade. 3) Dinger or EZe work out a deal with the league to sell their Ohtani for compensation (ex. top X MiLB or waiver pick the next Y years, the ability to pick any X available minor league players and hold them in addition to regular farm limits etc...). Surely there's some compensation that you would value above your Ohtani. Make an offer.

    Damn. I just realized that duplicate players (paid function) isn’t a solution: “Hi Chris, no sorry but there must either be 1 of every player, or duplicates of every player. Ohtani by default is 1 player. He's treated the same way as any other player with dual eligibility.”

    Yeah, I'd prefer to have a Level of Excellence type of deal for players like Phillips and save number retirements for HoF caliber players, but the sad reality is that with what's gone on in Ottawa (Hossa, Karlsson, Chara, Stone all leaving) there aren't any players with even a Chris Phillips level impact on the team. We're looking at guys like Chabot and Tkachuk in 20 years as the next candidates for number retirement, and that's obviously a big longshot.

    Does it really matter? The only other modern day Senator with their number retired is Alfredsson, and literally no player has any chance of having their number retired by the team in the next two decades. Almost 1200 games with the team as a top-4 d-man, and he's always been huge in the community. Reminds me of the Devils retiring Ken Daneyko's number.

    It sure is fun watching Zibanejad clown on Ottawa after he was traded (along with a 2nd) for f***ing Derick Brassard for salary reasons.

    A few notes: 1. Minor unilateral rule change: the draft lottery (which previously effected the order of only the first 5 picks of the first round) now effects the order of the first 5 picks of every round. 2. All 2020 picks have been converted into pick numbers, reflecting the draft lottery results I posted above. Please check your team for errors. 3. I've processed pick trades made before today. Everything else (except waiver pick trades) can happen in Fantrax from now on. 4. I've opened up trading. Trade away. 5. I'm locking adds for the teams who have already added their players.
