I'm 4+ years late, but I'm reading The Only Rule is it Has to Work, and it's fantastic. Ben Lindbergh and Sam Miller take over a the Sonoma Stompers, and the book is about their year running the team.

I don't really get it. Did they also criticize the Braves for giving Morton 15M? Gasuman might actually be quite good.

I know I just traded for Yarbrough in another league, but he's a guy I'm pretty comfortable plugging in as a 5th starter or whatever. I think the contact management is real, and the ERA doesn't look like a mirage to me. I also like guys who can be relied on not to blow up your K/BB even when they're not at their best.

Are the positional minimums in Fantrax what we're going with for 2021? Hitter minimums for previous season are set to 10, which IIRC is what we usually go with. Should we cut it down to 4 to reflect the short 2020 season? Could probably also drop previous season's games to qualify as SP to 2 from 3.

Yeah, it's weird. And it was likely an actual good defensive season and not a mirage shoddy defensive metrics good defensive season, because TB bought in on him, and I trust their defensive evaluations more than pretty much any team in the league.

Is anyone else surprised every time they look at his FG page that Renfroe is actually a pretty good defender? I always perceive him as being Mark Trumbo.

I hope that's not the plan. Effective fastball that sits 96 in relief, and likely less as a starter. Very good changeup. Slider that's a work in progress. Spotty command. Seems like his value will be as a fastball/changeup multi-inning guy out of the pen. I don't think he has the talent to be a starter that a contending team is content with.

A few things: 1. Big thanks to spanky for setting the draft order. Everything looks fine to me. I've changed the first 7 picks in the first round to reflect the draft lottery that Jim ran earlier in the offseason, and everything else is in reverse order of RS finish. TCA Ling34 Hurl (Connor) KingFiller (Abomination) Cool Beans 2. Please make sure you have the picks you're supposed to have. 3. Recall that international signings who sign before the start of the draft will be in the NPD (Kim, Sugano etc...). If any such players sign after the start of the draft, they'll be handled via waivers. 4. The draft is tentatively scheduled to begin on March 6th to allow for the J2 signings to play out. 6. On January 1st all unowned players will be waived, and MLB rosters will be set to 26.

Yeah. Weird for a terrible team with a bad farm to move real prospects for an unproven 1B. They must feel pretty good about his chances to become a very good hitter.

Longenhagen's take on the guys the Rays got for Nate Lowe: "To give you some context, Hernandez (50 FV), who turns 21 next week, is the type of college-aged hitting prospect who I’d have evaluated similar to Orioles 2020 first-rounder Heston Kjerstad, a college bat worthy of a top-ten pick in a draft. The 20-year-old Basabe (40+ FV) is a high-variance, late-second-round sort of prospect, and Ovalles (35+ FV) is the kind of player who’d get a mid-six-figure deal on day three of the draft, though it’s likely not all teams think of him that way."
