  1. I’ll be surprised it there’s a team option for that cheap. He’ll make double that I’m 2022 if he’s healthy this year.
  2. 40-man is now full. Next order of business will be punting Yamaguchi to make room for Trevor Bauer.
  3. Honestly, Brad Hand would be a fun signing. Would be borderline superpen status.
  4. If Yates does sign, we have probably 6 bullpen spots all but locked in if everyone is healthy: Yates ® Romano ® Dolis ® Chatwood ® Borucki (L) Merryweather ® Has the makings of a pretty decent pen, and with no financial commitments beyond 2021.
  5. I'm now committed to the idea of signing Yates, and will be very disappointed if it does not happen.

  7. Yeah, I'm pretty excited about this. Yates was never right physically last year, but if he's healthy he can be the best reliever in baseball.
  8. I find pitchers like Chatwood (and Ray for that matter) aesthetically unappealing, but there's a very good chance that one of them has an excellent season in 2021.
  9. I respect the Padres for being one of like 3 teams this offseason who have actually behaved like they care about winning games.
  10. Yup, Bauer is target #1 for me too. You can also dream on him being a bit more likely to stay healthy/effective because he's so thoughtful and receptive to data on things like spin and biomechanics.

FYI the Leafs missed the playoffs last year and haven't won a playoff series in 17 years.

One of Toronto's division rivals should claim Spezza and force him into retirement. He's still a useful player in his role.
  13. Rosenthal reporting that the Jays are still interested in Brantley. Would be a great addition: great hitter who can make 3-4 competent starts in LF and DH a couple times a week.
  14. Yup. Prospects being blocked isn’t really a thing in baseball. An NL 1B might have someone in his way a couple times a decade.
  15. This forum would turn on JBJ in about two weeks. He’s a left-handed Pillar who looks lost at the plate for months at a time, and there was a jubilant reaction when Pillar was traded for salary relief. It’s actually weird that we see JBJ offered as a target daily and no mentions whatsoever of Pillar.
  16. Yup. Their roster would have looked something like: C - Contreras 1B - Rizzo 2B - Hoerner 3B - Bryant SS - Baez LF - CF - Happ RF - Heyward Darvish Hendricks Alzolay Throwing up your hands and punting when you have that core is crazy. It's a good team! They won their division last year and probably would have been the favourite to do it again if they'd just picked up a bit of OF depth and a cheap starter or two to throw out there behind Darvish and Hendricks.
  17. The Cubs don't really even have much on the books in terms of long term bad contracts. They owe Kimbrel 17M this year which looks like a sunk cost, and owe Heyward 65M over the next three years. Their franchise crippling mistakes were Eloy Jimenez and Gleyber Torres. But they didn't even have to be bad next year. They're just kind of weirdly throwing in the towel.
  18. Kluber gets 1/11 from the Yankees. I bet he gives them a nice season.
  19. He was waived by TB and put on the restricted list for a game. What are the rules on that? Did I break a rule by moving down?
  20. I wouldn't have hated it if Toronto gave Lemahieu the deal he got. I don't hate it for the Yankees. It's like the Ryu deal - it's probably not going to be a $/WAR success story, but it doesn't have to be. I just don't think it's particularly team-friendly for NY.
  21. FWIW, I wouldn't have said JD's contract was team friendly either. 92M is a lot of money for a 34-year old with chronic calf issues, regardless of how good he is when he's able to play.

It's funny because Ottawa is f***ing terrible.
  23. Nobody actually wants more than like 2 years of him. This contract might as well be 4 or 5/90 with some money deferred, because he's probably not playing for the Yankees by the end of the deal.
