  1. We go through the same thing every offseason. Fans worry that guys like Sierra, Goins, JPA and Thames will make the opening day 25-man, and the team ends up finding solid replacements so it doesn't happen. No reason at all to believe this management team would give a spot to a replacement level talent.
  2. Sanchez at 13 is egregious.
  3. Lester is in the middle of a 5-6 win season. Acquiring him would cost at least 2 of our top 3 prospects.
  4. At the risk of getting into a Rays debate, people who claim to have seen the Rays' poor record coming don't sound nearly as smart as they think they do. Being right for the wrong reasons isn't really something to be proud of.
  5. That makes it a pretty difficult thing to discuss. What if he throws 90 innings of 2.9 ERA ball in the second half with peripherals that match? Would you take him over Buehrle at that point assuming Buehrle does normal Buehrle things over that time? I mean, obviously there are scenarios where a trade for Lee makes sense (medicals are completely clean) and scenarios where they don't (medicals say his elbow is ground hamburger).
  6. Has anyone passed on Holmberg or the guy Randy took that I've never heard of?
  7. I'm willing to bet that projections will have Buehrle at around 2 WAR next year and Lee at around 4. Seeing as he's scheduled to make his next start, I don't really see a reason why people without access to medical records should be adjusting that down when discussing the value he'll provide on his contract going forward. There is every reason to believe that a healthy Lee will be well worth his contract. Lee is healthy now. Will he stay healthy? Who the f*** knows?
  8. What if you can get Lee for Sean Nolin and A.J. Jimenez if you agree to take on the whole contract?
  9. I don't think either of you should have to re-select. Rule should just be re-written to state that any draft-eligible player who hasn't played an NHL game is eligible to be drafted.
  10. Citing Buehrle's current FIP-based fWAR while he's rocking a 6% HR/FB is pretty disingenuous. You wake up on the wrong side of the bed? And I was talking 2015 and 2016.
  11. Instead of looking at whether it's against the rule as currently written, we should be looking at whether it's against the spirit of the rule (intended to prevent us from drafting McDavid and Eichel this year). If GD wants Holmberg, he should have Holmberg. We don't need to be pedantic here.
  12. Yeah, obviously you don't acquire him if you don't like what you see in his medicals. A healthy lee is probably something like 4 WAR next year and 3.5 in 2016 though. IMO most every system will have Buehrle at around 2 next year. He's been there the last two years, and would be there again if not for a low HR/FB artificially deflating his FIP. I actually really like Mark Buehrle, and have no issues paying him what he'll earn, but if given the choice between him and Lee, I'll take Lee every time if his medicals check out.
  13. I mean, what's a reasonable projection for Lee over the next two years? Something like 7 WAR? You can probably pencil Buehrle in for 2. In terms of purely financial investment, the question is: $19 million for 2 wins in one year or $53 million for 7 wins in two years. Not only does Lee provide more projected wins, he earns about $2 million less per projected win than Buehrle. If you look at 2015 as the best kick at the can the team will have in the next few years, Lee at 25 for 4 wins makes so much more sense than Buehrle at 19 for 2 wins.
  14. That's only $6 million more in 2015 for 2-3 extra wins. Yes, Lee is also owed money for 2016 while Buehrle isn't, but there's not really anything to suggest he won't still be a 2-3 win arm at that point. For a team that's trying to win now, Lee is pretty clearly a better investment, all else being equal.
  15. Well Cliff Lee is a lot better than Mark Buehrle, and they make very similar money.
  16. Not nearly as jealous as you are of my thanks/post ratio.
  17. Still looking to package Lester/Kuma/Cobb + Syndergaard + picks/prospects + bat for an elite bat.
  18. On the bright side, we're almost up to 1000 members, and a good 20% of that is probably banned to troll accounts. I'm sure admin inflates the inflated membership numbers.
  19. I don't see the problem here as long as nobody is picked BEFORE they're draft eligible.
  20. KingKat seems to have chosen a good time to sell.
