  1. I really disagree with your assessment with where the team is. You go into the season with the status quo rotation, a Pillar/Gose CF platoon, and Tolleson/Kawasaki at 2B you're probably looking at another sub-85 win "contention" season. Wins need to be added. Real wins. scratching and clawing to get 1-2 wins out of multiple positions isn't going to cut it.
  2. I actually only have one hitter with a higher OPS than your team this season, and Braun only has you beat by 19 points.

  4. Fujikawa could be awesome if he signs a cheap deal. It's just difficult for me to see how even $5 million makes sense on a payroll of, say, $145 million. There are just so many other holes: LF, CF, C, 2B, DH, SP, bench etc... I really think they have to be looking at guys who make <$2 million until all of the other holes are filled. That said, I'm expecting runs at Grilli and Uehara, both of whom have been targetted in the past.
  5. Even $5 million is too much IMO. There a a few free agents hurt/having down years that could go for very cheap: Johnson, Crain, Hochevar, Belisle etc... I really hope that the add guys like that if they're signing FA's. Lots of landmines out there though: Grilli, Janssen, Romo, Soriano, Gergerson, Robertson, K-Rod, Uehara, Miller etc... All of those guys ill likely earn $5 M+
  6. Baseball reference uses runs against in their WAR calculation, while fangraphs uses FIP.
  7. No way I'd pay McGowan $4 million, but I'd be content with trying a bunch of Drabek/Delabar types next year on the cheap. I just think the FO is going to see the pen as an area of need, given how few established guys they have going into next year, and the fact that the pen has been awful this year. AA has always shown a desire to add established guys, and I think that will lead to multiple acquisitions this offseason.
  8. I think a lot of assets are going to be put into the pen. As things stand, they have Cecil, Loup, and possibly Sanchez for next year. IMO they'll be trading for/signing at least 3 guys, and it will be wasteful.
  9. I can't wait for him to be gifted a promotion to president. The Blue Jay Way.
  10. It is ridiculous that Reimold is up instead of Gose, but that's about par for the course.
  11. Stupid rule. Navarro was blocking the plate, but calling the runner safe when the throw beat him by that much would be ridiculous.
  12. I still don't understand why anyone was ever on that bandwagon. He's a replacement-level player.
  13. And you get Havok next week while I get FTD. Looks like the MC will be yours. It also looks like a first-round playoff matchup is kind of likely.
  14. What an awful week. I'm going to lose to Havok, lol.
  15. Hopefully justice is served here and the protest is upheld.
  16. So I acquired Jason Vargas. Look out league.
  17. What it comes down to is how you want to evaluate pitching. The people you're arguing with are looking at the outcomes that a pitcher can control: strikeouts, walks, ground balls. By that metric, Alvarez has been pretty good: a true-talent 3.4-3.5 ERA guy helped out by a very favourable home park. What you're doing is crediting him for things our of his control: defense, favourable clustering of events, favourable home aprk etc.. He probably hasn't actually done anything himself to contribute the ERA that is so much lower than his FIP or xFIP, so people aren't really inclined to evaluate his performance as though it should have yielded an ERA well under 3. The argument is kind of silly, in that neither side is going to agree and you're going to go in circles. I think everyone can agree that Alvarez has been good. At least league average, and probably better.
  18. Not touching the rest of this mess, but bolded is a pet peeve of mine. Bad pitchers tend to induce a lot of double plays because they have a lot of baserunners, and the ball is put in play often.
  19. I really hope MLB forces a re-play because A) the challenge was illegal, but mostly it would be hilarious.
  20. I'm not getting in to arguing about pitch selection, but I very strongly disagree with walking Reyes to face Melky. Reyes was without question the weakest hitter due up for the remainder of the inning.
