Man, starting Vargas tonight was my first big mistake of the playoffs. I saw that North had Lackey on the bench about an hour before his start, and decide to take a run at strikeouts.
Anyone else hoping the team slips below 0.500? The extra losses are mostly meaningless, but the optics could help expedite the firing of certain front office undesirables.
I don't know him personally, but I assume he's probably pretty comfortable with the knowledge that his stellar track record could likely make him the highest paid GM in baseball whenever he gets tired of slumming it in TB.
What I mean is that the information is worthless. It doesn't matter where Reyes sits among X shortstops with Y PA over the last Z years, because we know where his production sits in relation to market value.
The list is meaningless though. We have a good idea what you can expect to pay per win on the market, and it's more than $5.5M (between 6 and 9 depending on who you ask).
Yes. 10-win seasons are pretty valuable.
You're right to be unhappy about the Reyes acquisition. He's almost certainly not going to provide value over the life of the contract. Things are going to go bad. It just hasn't happened yet. He's been worth the money so far.
