  1. Probably more like $7.5 M for Estrada and Smoak. Like $6.5 M in savings, but it's also a considerable downgrade unless Smoak has just been unlucky for a long time. They have a lot of holes to fill to get the roster into something cohesive.
  2. Hard to have faith that this FO is capable of making the additions required to get the lineup looking like anything but a turd.
  3. SS - Reyes RF - Bautista 3B - Lawrie 1B - Encarnacion C - Navarro DH - Smoak CF - Gose/Pillar LF - Dirks 2B - Izturis BN - Gose/Pillar BN - Thole BN - Mayberry BN - Kawasaki Roster is in shambles.
  4. If they wanted to spend $5 million on a reliever, there is pretty much endless opportunity to do that on the market. They took a guy with value, and punted him. Despite not actually having a backup.
  5. Estrada: $5 million reliever. Jesus Christ.
  6. His bat is going to be missed. He really added depth to the lineup when used properly. The offense will suffer.
  7. $1.25 M set on fire with the budget already very tight. No big deal.
  8. Your 3rd string catcher should be making the min. And not be on your 25-man. It's little things like this that add up to tank entire seasons.
  9. Thole @ 1.75 is pretty awful.
  10. Bench sucks.
  11. This thread was fun last year, so let’s do it again. I tried to keep the projected roster at guys who earned a place this year and are likely to make next year’s team. IMO the only virtual locks to not be non-tendered are Lawrie, Francisco, and Hutchison. C – Navarro (5) 1B – Encarnacion (10) 2B – 3B – Lawrie (arb1) SS – Reyes (22) RF – Bautista (14) CF – Gose (nm) LF – DH – 2B/3B – Maicer Izturis (3) OF - John Mayberry Jr. (arb2) 3B - Valencia (arb1) C - Thole (1.75) SP – Dickey (12) SP – Buehrle (19) SP –Romero (7.5) SP - Happ (6.7) SP - Estrada (arb3) SP – Hutchison (arb1) SP – Stroman (nm) RP – Brett Cecil (arb2) RP – Aaron Loup (nm) RP – Todd Redmond (nm) RP - Liam Hendriks (nm) Total = $97.95 million + nm(6) + arb (Lawrie, Mayberry Jr., Valencia, Hutchison, Cecil, Estrada) = approx. $100.95 million + arb (Lawrie, Mayberry Jr., Valencia, Hutchison, Cecil, Estrada) Free Agents Melky Cabrera Colby Rasmus Casey Janssen Other Arb-Eligible Dan Johnson (arb3) Munenori Kawasaki (arb1) Juan Francisco (arb2) Andy Dirks (arb3)
  12. Me too. Surprised it hasn't been yet.
  13. IMO Lind carries more value around the league than Happ. You rarely see 5th starter types with not-insignificant salaries return much of anything.
  14. So we're just waiting on Morrow and Thole's options now?
  15. Best news in awhile. Hopefully he goes away.
  16. Cron is bad, but I'd probably do that. One year of Kendrick + comp pick is more valuable than Sanchez IMO, especially with the team at least notionally looking to compete.
  17. I'm not sure what to think about how he should be used. As a starter he's probably like a 4.25+ ERA 4/5, which isn't really needed at all as things stand.
  18. We're not getting a 3+ win player for Happ + a scrub.
  19. Lind talk his way out of town.
  20. Not sure what your gripe is, but this thread is 62 pages of pretty good discussion. What the f*** do you contribute from up on that pedestal?
  21. The idea behind trading Lind for a reliever was saving $7 million. This move costs them a win while saving like $3.5 million.
  22. He could have just thrown the $4 million Estrada will make at a similar free agent reliever. This is just bad.
  23. I really can't believe how bad this is. A guy who was replacement-level this year, and Steamer thinks is replacement-level next year for a 1.5 win guy, all to save less than $4 million.
  24. C – Navarro (5) 1B – Encarnacion (10) 2B – 3B – Lawrie (arb1) SS – Reyes (22) RF – Bautista (14) CF – Gose (nm) LF – DH – 2B/3B – Maicer Izturis (3) OF - John Mayberry Jr. (arb2) 3B - Valencia (arb1) SP – Dickey (12) SP – Buehrle (19) SP –Romero (7.5) SP - Happ (6.7) SP - Estrada (arb3) SP – Hutchison (arb1) SP – Stroman (nm) RP – Brett Cecil (arb2) RP – Aaron Loup (nm) RP – Todd Redmond (nm) RP - Liam Hendriks (nm) Total = $96.2 million + nm(6) + arb (Lawrie, Mayberry Jr., Valencia, Hutchison, Cecil, Estrada) = approx. $99.2 million + arb (Lawrie, Mayberry Jr., Valencia, Hutchison, Cecil, Estrada) Free Agents Melky Cabrera Colby Rasmus Casey Janssen Team Options Brandon Morrow (10 + 1 buyout) Dustin McGowan (4 + 0.5 buyout) Justin Smoak (3.65 + 0.15 buyout) Josh Thole (1.75) Other Arb-Eligible Dan Johnson (arb3) Munenori Kawasaki (arb1) Juan Francisco (arb2) Andy Dirks (arb3)
  25. This is f***ing awful. Lind is better than Estrada, fills a bigger position of need, and is only like $3.5 M more expensive.
