    If they are increasing AAV for a 4 year deal then why not just give him what he is seeking on a 5 year deal and try to front load as much as possible? We all know 5 years is probably going to end poorly but if it’s front loaded it won’t be franchise crippling. Doesn’t help this years budget but this team is not in an enviable position.

    Personally, I don’t want to be jumping between several sub forums, much rather have all baseball talk on one and if need be then have a separate sub forum for off topic discussions. 99% of the time I’ll be on my phone and don’t really want to waste time jumping around. Just will click on discussions I want to read and ignore what I don’t.

    We don’t know that. He is a massive talent and likely has been advised to go the interpreter route. Can’t blame a guy for looking out for his best interest, that doesn’t always speak of his character.

    Payroll is sunk already, this team is on its absolute last tank and currently at best a fringe wild card team. Might as well pay the man and take one last shot because if they cannot extend Vladdy this is going to turn into a rebuild.

    The way salaries are now in general, $40 mil per season over 10 years isn’t that bad if Vladdy doesn’t turn into a pumpkin. Signing him probably helps attract other free agents who otherwise wouldn’t even give them the time of day.

    Kk isn’t going to be on the bench. He won’t play everyday but he will be the primary CF once again.

    More than anyone else did so he definitely deserves the hat tip.

    Getting both Soler & KK would be ideal if we miss out on Bellinger.

    Polanco for Kikuchi would make a lot of sense but the left side of our infield would be horrendous defensively. If it results in an upgrade to the rotation though I’d be content with it. The team clearly has money to spend, how much and on who obviously matters but there is no way we’re not taking on some sort of significant contract either via FA or trade at this point and I much rather that money get spent on the strength of the market.

    Berrios is a good pitcher with a track record of success. Even in a season that went horribly wrong for him, he still wasn’t that bad when you break down the numbers. I don’t think anyone would be surprised to see him turn in another 3-4 War season this year.

    I do. It’s not a dire need, but still a need. We have a spot on the bench that can be utilized and in a year the team probably wants to make a statement it’s not the worst idea to build enough depth on the field that we can withstand 2-3 injuries and still have an above average offense.

    Profar doesn’t have that bargaining power on a true contender though. He can start on a non contender but no real contender will just give him the role to run with.

    We do need a true backup OF and I’m hoping it’s Mccutchen. He would see plenty of playing time and we might have the best bench in baseball.

    Yup. It’s insurance incase of injuries and we are maintaining a well balanced lineup on a day to day basis even after losing Teo. The offense is structured well and we’re just a 5th SP and another pen arm away from being set for opening day imo.
