  1. Might as well leave Cecil in for the save. He's only at 12 pitches anyway, and it helps save Casey's barking shoulder or needlessly warm someone else up. I see I was beat to it. Doesn't look like it's going to happen though.
  2. Lind shows above average at first in almost every type of stat, including range stats. The fielding bible stats basically have him dead on average. He may not have the range of a guy like Overbay did, but almost no one does.
  3. It's also interesting to see the increase in k rate for relievers over the last 10 years, and the sharp reduction in walks over the last 3 years or so.
  4. I think it's only fair to point out that since 2002, mlb relievers on average have outperformed their xFIP every single year (correspondingly starters underperformed it) http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=rel&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2013&month=0&season1=2002&ind=0&team=0,ss&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0
  5. 8 of Dickey's 14 starts have been quality starts.
  6. So, do people give JPA credit for all those pitches off the plate being called strikes tonight?
  7. Porcello with 4 k's through his first 2 innings. 20 pitches.
  8. That's JPA's 6th home run in 10 games now in this stadium.
  9. Damn it! 2 batters too late!
  10. Drabek scheduled to pitch 2 innings in an intersquad game next week.
  11. Ackley tearing it up in the 15 games since his demotion: .406 average, > .500 obp, > 1.000 ops. It IS the PCL though.
  12. Imo they are absolutely right. If the Yankees can stock up on a few high end prospects, they can always fill other positions in FA as they always do. You have to think Cano would bring in at least a top end prospect at the deadline if the Yankees are willing to pay the rest of his salary. Granderson should bring in someone pretty good as well if he's healthy. Hughes and especially Kuroda as well. They could theoretically stock up on talent AND re-sign all 4 if they wanted to.
  13. You had to make him worth 3 ... Uggghhh, taking JPA.
  14. Whether he's interested in the production or not, there's no place to play him atm. If that trade actually happened, there'd have to be something else in the works too, or either Bautista or Edwin would have to move to 3rd long term. So let's assume that the other rumour (Profar for Bautista) was the second half of that. What would be your opinion then?
  15. I would have to assume that Santos' contract is insured, but you never know. It would be an interesting question to ask AA, especially considering how many injuries we've had this year.
  16. Hmm, that could be. If so I apologize. If not, he needs to state why he thinks I'm wrong (and back it up).
  17. Such a useful comment here...
  18. Who cares about the value from positional adjustment, especially if they're both in the lineup? Put the players in the position where they help the team most. As for the lineup, I'd rather see Lind bat third (or if his bat cools off then Melky) just to keep the R-L splits, but it's not that big a deal either way.
  19. Right now, JPA is getting to 3 ball counts at close to league average rate, so I'm not sure he needs to go to the minors to be fixed. The real issue comes once he gets to 3 balls. On average 41% of the people that get to 3 balls in the AL this year draw a walk, while JP is only at 16%. If JP drew the walk ONCE GETTING TO 3 BALLS at a league average rate, he'd have 10 more walks on the season which (without doing the math) would probably raise his average about 10 points and OBP by 40 to 50 points. That's without him changing ANYTHING else. Combine that with the fact that's he's in a slump right now (probably partly due to overuse), and I don't see major adjustments that can't be made at the major league level. Just one tweak in that thing he calls a head when he gets to 3 balls. Some of the other things would be nice (and should be worked on), but just that one change probably puts him back to where he's at least a partial asset to the team.
  20. Would have liked to see Kennedy's suspension be a little longer since he can appeal until the day after he starts, drop it, and basically only miss a little more than one turn in the rotation. Still, glad to see it has a little meat on it.
  21. Ethier's numbers are incredibly weird. He's hit almost twice as many career home runs at home as away (which considering where he plays ...), and aside from this season hits lefties fairly well at home but can't touch them away.
  22. I forgot about his eye issues, but his defense and range this year have also been horrible. Maybe that is also related to the eyes, I don't know. It could also be related to the ton of injuries he seems to have gone through. I'm not sure it's a given he sticks at 3rd.
