  1. I think you're forgetting just how horrible Fielder's contract is.
  2. Wasn't JPR the one that backed out of that deal, or am I misremembering?
  3. This would be my thought as well, as there were reports that the Jays definitely made Buehrle available (sneaking suspicion that Buehrle has asked to be traded if the team can find a return it can live with). It could also be possible that it involved Santos and JPA though.
  4. Ughhh, can I go back in time and NOT click on the link?
  5. Great job! I'll go through the actual reports a little later when I have more time, but looks very thorough and high quality.
  6. Works fine for me
  7. No one could possibly EVER say anything bad about him again if he did something epic like that!
  8. He's at fault for not getting more depth to slot in behind when injuries happen, but with the volume we had last year it really wouldn't have mattered anyway.
  9. Great, he wants us to be the Marlins!
  10. I would be extremely upset if I had to watch that team, especially on the offense. We would get the first overall pick though.
  11. You want to blow up the team or buy struggling assets hoping they'll turn it around when we need them to, yet all you want is to see meaningful games in July? You're complaining about friends who had a talented but unlucky team that put it together, yet don't acknowledge the same situation here? I think you're confused about what you want.
  12. I'm not sure Boras has one of the biggest client bases, just some of the biggest names.
  13. We aren't up against the luxury tax so that doesn't matter, so it's to help free up funds for this year and next year.
  14. Yup, that would be 5.2 + 3.0. Romero could probably be talked into restructuring his contract. Thole can be traded if Kratz or Navarro can handle the knuckleball (1.25M) Say for Romero something like: 1. 5 year deal at 1M / year with 2M bonus if he's on the MLB roster for 50 days or 5M for 100+ days. (not 100% sure if this is allowed or not now) 2. Signing bonus of 2M / year over 10 years, starting in 2016. 3. An opt out (or retirement) claus exercisable at the conclusion of any year, but doing so reduces the remaining signing bonus to 1.5M / year. 4. If another team claims him off waivers, the signing bonus is converted into salary for the remaining years of the contract (ie, the Jays aren't on the hook for it) I know it's overly complicated, but just thinking out loud. Worse case for us, he gets 25M over the next 12 years rather than 16M over the next 2, but the hit per year would be small.
  15. Probably a stretch payroll wise (at least 35M and probably 40M). We MIGHT be able to free up 15ish without hurting the team. Man is that roster a pretty sight though.
  16. 3/39 would be incredibly amazing.
  17. Why not? No reason he can't regularly throw bullpens every other day and build up some feel. You'd likely only use him initially as a pitcher if you're getting blown out anyway (or enough extra innings that you have to bring in a position player regardless). If things start to go well, you can increase his game usage as needed.
  18. That would be rather interesting for a team to try.
  19. In fairness, maybe Paxton signs if Boras isn't breaking the rules and in his ear. I'd be pretty mad if I was Beeston too, he just shouldn't have said anything about it publicly. Regardless, I think if the deal is the best fit for both sides they'll put their issues aside and get something done, they just won't look to deal with each other as a first choice. Since most Boras players are fairly highly sought, that usually means we won't be part of it. Baker may be different in that regard.
  20. It doesn't improve over time either lol
  21. I would easily say Tanaka first. You're already fine at 1st base, but if he slides enough don't forget about Abreu as well. Hard to say what to expect from him, but a fast start for a mlb ready guy could net you a great trade return if you didn't want to keep him.
  22. Non-participants can be culled without a demotion system. I think it would make sense though not to reward teams with a high guarantee for tanking, but that's just my opinion.
  23. Heh, gotta love that shot! I wish more players would stop trying to protect their percentages and try that - could be the difference in the game.
