    It is a good read. I'm not sure what I think about the wheel though. I kind of wonder if perhaps all non-playoff teams should get equal chance at receiving the top picks. Maybe put in a slight modifier for each year they finish out of the playoffs but don't get a top 5 pick, and the modifier goes back to zero when they do or something to help combat really bad luck.

    Philly doing a fantastic job of tanking right now. They've lost 22 straight games (although they still aren't in last place). Man does the NBA need to fix things so that teams have no incentive to blatantly lose.

    He might be a half decent fit for Detroit if they feel his defense will be average once he's off the turf.

    Could be. I think we need to keep our young pitching though, so I hope we don't do it. Once we get rid of the turf, we shouldn't have to overpay for bats. We'll never get FA pitching at face value, so we're better off developing it ourselves.

    This smells to me like something bigger is in the works, and AA is making sure he has positions covered in case it goes down. Might we see something involving both Sierra and Izzy? AA hinted before that moves to address the bench could be made at the end of spring, and to me this move is protection for that possibility.

    We may be lacking an ace, but if the rotation actually puts up those numbers we'll win a hell of a lot of games. Good showing today from Rogers and Dustin!

    I think it has to be Redmond. Happ still seems like a bit of a mess. At least we have a pretty good idea what to expect from Redmond, and that's a legit #4/5 guy who gives you a chance to win games. On the plus side for this game, Melky is looking very encouraging. Single, Double, stolen base. He might just be back!

    Well, this game takes RR out of the running I'm guessing. 2.2 innings, 3 hits, 3 runs, 5 walks, 0 k's. 3 caught stealing and a pickoff lol.

    In general I think a person with the Ace label should have the durability as well, in addition to an elite track record. I would label only a handful of guys as Aces around the league, and would consider them to be different than a #1 starter. I would consider Strasburg to be a #1 starter who could prove himself to be an ace. It's all just semantics though, and since there is no set definition everyone has their own opinion.

    I kind of think you should be able to get more for those two (Perez imo you should keep, and trade Grandal or Ruiz).

    There's a big difference between straight underhand and submarine. Submarine I believe puts at least as much stress on the elbow as a normal slot does (probably more), and the elbow is where the bulk of injuries seem to be right now.

    And the A's would probably turn him into a 5 war guy and pawn him off for massive return at the deadline.

    $19 seems horribly high for Belt the more I look at it, but I guess it all depends on who else he can get. It's better than sitting with $19 left over at the end...

    The problem is the small data set. Narrowing the focus further makes it even worse.

    Belt might be iffy then if next year's cost is $19 (or did you already add next year's inflation into the costs?)

    Desmond, Craig (amazing value there), Carp, Belt, and Lee imo. My projections like Venable, but I'm not sure I'd do it. (does the keeper add $5 / year, or just once to designate?)

    It seems like pitchers in the past were more of the David Wells breed - show up in spring training after not touching a ball for 4 or 5 months, throw nine or ten innings, and you're good to go. Many pitchers today seem to throw (at least periodically) most of the off-season in between their constant high intensity workouts. I have to wonder if they simply aren't giving their arms enough time to recover and heal from the previous season.
