  1. If we finish below .500 this year, I actually think it IS the best option to blow it up. We could still get huge hauls for Bautista and Edwin, among others, and we already have the young pitching. If we have a big September and make the playoffs (or finish just outside), then maybe you plug some holes and give it one more shot.
  2. Seriously? The Rays were gifted the lead in the previous inning by the ump missing strike 3 and then Reimold missing the resulting fly.
  3. I don't mind it in general, it just needs to be tweaked a little. I kind of agree with previous thoughts that maybe managers shouldn't be allowed to come out and wait for their own guys to tell them whether or not to challenge. For example, the 1st base coach should be able to tell the bench whether to challenge at 1b or not, and if it's close enough that he isn't sure then it probably doesn't deserve to be challenged in the first place. Stuff like that would help quite a bit.
  4. Not sure. He didn't like the call, but he wasn't demonstrative or anything like we've seen in the past. He was pretty calm. Ump had a right to throw him out (you aren't supposed to argue balls and strikes), but imo he didn't deserve to be. Edwin however, DID and the ump managed to restrain himself. I guess it evens out.
  5. Delabar is still having walk issues (more than 1 per inning over his last 9 appearances).
  6. Now Edwin DID deserve to get tossed there. BTW, technically I agree that the ump had the right to throw out Bautista, however when the player is mostly just having a conversation I don't think it's necessary.
  7. Yeah he didn't deserve to be tossed there, but he should have gone to the dugout when the ump "suggested" it though. At least he's really cut down on the arguing from last year.
  8. That was a great pick. That's something Lind has always been excellent at. Too bad his range / back aren't better.
  9. For me, no. We seem to have bad luck with managers, and we have one who actually loves being here. Would I prefer a guy like Maddon? Sure, but I'd prefer some stability if we don't have a clear "upgrade" to obtain. I think Pete Walker has to go though.
  10. That's true, although you could argue as well that a bunt in that situation yesterday, with two strikes and a batter that rarely bunts, wasn't a smart move. The result simply made it look good. He just doesn't look right atm mentally. I'd rather see him clear his head for a few days and be closer to normal through September than have the brain cramps continue.
  11. Bautista for all I care. Whatever Colby is adding atm in range is being taken away by his stupidity.
  12. With the same type of brain cramp the other day, Colby needs to be benched for a few games.
  13. I wonder what they consider to be "preparing to start his delivery"? Do they mean when he's simply on the rubber, when he's looking in for a sign, when he's got a sign, when he comes set, etc? Buehrle was on the rubber looking in for a sign, but he hadn't got one yet.
  14. If we're going to throw 6/72 at someone, why don't we just throw it at Melky (who would also cost us no prospects or draft picks)? There's probably a decent chance he accepts, and imo a good chance he outperforms Castillo over that same period of time even if Castillo is a legit full time starter (which is NOT a sure thing). BTW, what the hell is up with fangraphs rating of Melky's defense this year? He sure hasn't FELT that bad, certainly night and day compared to last year yet the ratings are pretty close.
  15. Vanland is at .375 so you need to suck a little harder in that category.
  16. Didn't see anyone post this. Giants protested last night's game and WON the protest. First time that's happened in almost 30 years. http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/11384538/san-francisco-giants-win-appeal-finish-game-vs-chicago-cubs
  17. Looks like if you guys say his name often enough, he goes down injured.
  18. Probably needed there too, since Gose will probably be right back up with us when the rosters expand.
  19. Most managers don't like bringing a long man in with a bunch of runners on base, they prefer to start them the following inning with the bases clean.
  20. I agree, Edwin is and was clearly a superior player. I think people just tend to forget just how bad Edwin was early on and how badly fans wanted him permanently gone. As I said though, I would prefer Francisco was released right now.
  21. He's struggling because pitchers figured out that he has zero chance of hitting anything that isn't a fastball.
  22. Edwin was pretty awful early on too. Almost everyone was calling for his release. I'm not saying Juan will figure it out, but let's not pretend that it happened immediately with Edwin. With that said, I see no reason to keep him on the team right now.
