  1. Seems like the 4th year might be a 5M club option. If true, that contract seems extremely light to me.
  2. Interesting. I'm guessing he probably turned down more money elsewhere to remain at SS instead of 2B or 3B. I don't think it'll take Correa 3 years to be ready for the majors though, so he probably won't be there the full term.

What the hell are the Canucks doing? They've given up three 3 on 1 and a 2 on 1 in the first seven minutes.
  4. Both are probably roughly equal with the glove at 3rd when they're on the field, but Donaldson should be on the field more. Saunders should be a huge upgrade over Melky though, and Martin a massive one over Navarro. I will say that Lawrie's positional flexibility (especially when it comes to the shift) is rather nice though, and will probably be missed more than we realize.
  5. All things being equal, I'd probably take Pearce over Fowler and hope that the breakout is legit, but it doesn't seem like robbery to me. If someone was in need of a CF, it doesn't seem unreasonable. I highly doubt Pearce will put up anywhere close to a 160 wRC+ next year. I could easily see both in the 120 range.
  6. Aoki is actually an interesting guy to compare Toritani to. There's a little under a year difference in age, and their overall Japan numbers over that time actually appear to be extremely similar, outside of the effects of Aoki's higher batting average. Now, more interestingly (and not very scientifically), the final year they both played in the Japanese League (2011 when the new balls came in), Aoki's Japan numbers were almost exactly what they've been the last two years here. Toritani suffered the same power drop Aoki (and everyone else in Japan) did, and similar the following year in the other categories. IF those numbers translate relatively well to what they would have done in the majors (and I admit that's a big if), he could be a better find that we realize. If someone has a bit of free time, they can look a little deeper into that.
  7. Not necessarily. He may really want to get a taste of the major leagues while he's still young enough to have a chance to. There's also a matter of drawing a major league pension if he comes over for a year or two.
  8. Yeah, I agree. Honestly, if he even hits a little better than Kawasaki and is a better defender at SS and 3rd, then he seems to be a pretty valuable bench piece with the possibility for more.
  9. Evan Marshall would be awesome, but if they have no intention of giving up someone from the pen, I wonder what they do intend to trade? Hill maybe?
  10. Yeah, he did. Still though, when you include the salaries plus what they're paying the Marlins, they basically paid 22M + Gordon and Haren for a single season of Kendrick and 3 prospects. That's not very good asset management imo.
  11. No kidding. That's a terrible deal imo. It would be different if Kendrick had a few years of control left perhaps, but 1???
  12. I'd argue that Scherzer might be worth that, but it would have made a lot more sense imo for the Cubs to have gone after Shields or someone like that. Excluding last year, as NJH mentioned, for the three previous years Lester's numbers were basically roughly a #2 starter, if that. I understand the logic of picking up a top of the rotation type guy and paying well for him, I just don't think Lester is the right one.
  13. I'm not a big fan of Lester, and definitely NOT at that kind of contract. Starting with his first full season, he's had 3 excellent years deserving of that, but he's also had 4 forgettable (if you want to call yourself a 25M / year pitcher at least) ones. I strongly suspect the Cubs are going to really regret this.
  14. I'd happily take 9M + 12M? of Holland (plus qualifying and getting a draft pick back at the end) over 4 years of Robertson at 12M+ per. It all depends on what the prospect cost is though.
  15. The Royals have some payroll issues, and Holland should be in the 7-8M range this year (guessing), and same for Wade Davis. They don't want to trade them, but they may have to part with one.
  16. My feeling is that if you get him in the 1 to 1.5M range, then one of he or Delabar probably bounce back and have a nice season. Axford's Steamer projection (which I think is broken for playing time with relievers), has him at 3.36 FIP and 3.5BB/9, which is pretty decent.
  17. I'd still like us to pick up Axford. Should be relatively cheap, and I believe we'd still control him the following year.
  18. After AA managed to avoid including Sanchez or Norris in the Donaldson trade, I can't imagine him including them for 2 years of a closer who isn't going to be cheap in arbitration.
  19. I don't see why we couldn't do the same sort of thing with Cecil as the A's did with Doolittle.
  20. I'd be a lot more comfortable at closer to 5, especially considering his lack of velocity.
  21. Yeah, I'd rather spread the money around. Heck, I'd rather give Shields 15M / year and make Sanchez the closer if it came down to that. I'm perfectly happy with Cecil as the closer regardless, and pick up a few solid guys to fill out the pen. There's been some reports that KC needs to trade one of their relievers. Picking up Holland or Wade Davis would be really interesting.
  22. Robertson will get more than Miller got, but with the compensation issue, he might not get 15 AAV. It might be closer to the 11 to 12 AAV range.
  23. I forgot about Ogando. Yeah, that would be a good one. As for Romo, he struggled in the first half of the season last year, but was pretty much back to normal in the second half. I'm thinking he probably signs at a discount if he's guaranteed the closer role, and outside of Roberson and Miller, probably produces just as much value as anyone else. Axford is basically Delabar with closing experience, and likely is in the 1 to 1.5M range. If Brett Anderson is ready to give up being a starter, he'd be an excellent BP arm as well.
  24. I think Romo or Axford would also be interesting.
