  1. There's a lot of games tomorrow. Way too early.
  2. I'm not sure how much they actually do, but if he comes cheap enough they could trade Cashner for likely a good haul and keep Shields.
  3. Apparently the two sides are now at an impasse, only an hour after it was reported to be a virtual lock. I think the only thing to read right now is that both sides have some interest (along with likely a few other teams). Everything else is just click bait.
  4. Apparently Silver is thinking about changing the playoff structure so that that top 16 teams make the playoffs.
  5. I get the impression someone is really happy about that...
  6. Nothing wrong with that. Most people don't like a lot of my trades either (often you). I have a tendency to look to give up a return that I think is fair based on my valuations, but often don't take into account the market value of the asset enough. I think you did a bit of that here.
  7. That's being pretty kind in the analysis I think. Bird is certainly intriguing, but that return seems extremely light.
  8. How crazy is it that both teams have had 20 point leads in this game?
  9. Agreed. Could you imagine if Bautista played basketball instead of baseball?
  10. Some of these fouls (both ways) are a little questionable.
  11. The thing is, that's the kind of player you're generally talking about for a 4th outfielder. In fact, both may very well be above average 4th outfielders. It would be nice to have a DH or 1st baseman who could also play the outfield (or, you know, a Zobrist), but barring that we could do a hell of a lot worse than what we have.
  12. No point in JV faking that shot if he never actually takes it.
  13. Well, he IS 39 (almost 40), doesn't move well to block balls in the dirt anymore, can't run, and can't hit. The only thing he really brings is experience and framing, and I'm not sure either make up for the rest anymore (it did at one time).
  14. I'm a little concerned about it, but AA can probably find a AAAA player (someone's gotta play outfield in AAA) that could step in if more than Pillar was needed. Damn, that's a lot of A's.
  15. I really don't mind McGowan on a 1 year / 1M major league deal.
  16. Norris needs to make his van cooler! http://www.cbc.ca/asithappens/features/2015/02/05/for-sale-star-trek-boogie-van/
  17. Beachy is still out there too, and probably isn't going to cost a fortune.
  18. The extra talk all this is generating will probably inflate his value.
  19. I bet KK is wishing he did that on purpose right about now...
  20. Maybe they could defer money to do it. Say 3M this year, and then 3M each of the following 6 years. It wouldn't cripple us in future years, and would still probably work out to ~17M or 18M equivalent for Shields after taking inflation into account. There's always ways to work it out.
  21. Yeah, the stars definitely were aligned. However, it's now only two weeks before spring training, and it seems like teams that DO have some flexibility are intent to hold onto it for now and go after Moncada, etc. It'll be interesting to see what happens, but I think at this point in the spring, a 1 year deal (and probably a firing of his agent) have to at least be considered.
  22. The other thing to consider regarding Shields, is that if he can't find a multi-year deal he likes, maybe he'd be willing to take a higher cost one year deal and try again next winter (with the landscape being stacked next winter, not sure how smart that would be). If he did do this, we've already lost our 1st round pick, so it would be easier for us to sign him than some of the other teams.
  23. His velocity has actually been trending upward slowly (similar to Cliff Lee).
  24. Yeah, I don't believe we'll sign him either. Fun to speculate and try to find ways to make it work though.
  25. Well, Shields IS an upgrade over Buehrle, and probably gives you an extra 20 innings too. You're right though, those guaranteed innings from those three would be huge. It would take a massive load off the pen, and with them not being overworked, probably results in an improved pen too.
