  1. Unlikely, but even if he was, no arbitrator in his right mind is going to give a raise from 700k to 5.4M, for a 31 year old based on a single 1/2 season of PA.
  2. Actually, looking closer at the projected salaries (based on mlbtr for whatever it's worth), Gonzalez and Britton seem like definite low ball offers, but the rest don't seem all that unreasonable. Pearce especially is out of his mind imo. I don't see any chance in hell that an arbitrator would give him that, based on essentially 1/2 a season.
  3. This seems like a fantastic way to piss off 1/4 of your team.
  4. I feel like the Jays submission might be a little low given recent salary inflation (and yes I know that they are going to come in a bit lower than what they would settle for normally). This is one instance where I think we may have been better off coming in a little higher than the projections (4.75 maybe), and pretty much assure ourselves of winning. Assuming we go to arbitration and don't have a multi-year deal signed instead, this feels like a case Donaldson might actually win imo.
  5. Locking up his 4 arbitration years rather than going year-to-year might not be such a bad idea. Gives him financial guarantee, and protects us a bit from him getting insane amounts the last year or two if he continues to be one of the best in baseball.
  6. Yeah, but less than projected. How does AA manage to keep getting all these guys to sign for less anyway?
  7. Yeah, I agree. I'm just not sure I'd consider him near elite. He's good, and I'd love to have him, but not as good as people are making him out to be imo.
  8. Is Clippard really near-elite though? He has an xFIP the last 3 years of 4.14, 4.02, 3.28, and a career xFIP of 3.91. SIERA likes him a little more, but I'm still not sure I'd consider them to be THAT great. Add in to that the fact he'll get $8M+ in arbitration next year (I think MLBTR predicts over $9M)...
  9. Ouch! Pretty telling about character, when you have an above average player on a good contract, who is apparently THAT toxic.
  10. We may be best off keeping Navarro ourselves, provided he doesn't cause any drama. I'm not completely convinced that'll be the case though.
  11. You have to figure Clippard is moving somewhere (I don't see him taking the closer role from Doolittle, and paying a setup man $8 mil or so for a small market team seems silly). A catcher on a short term deal would make some sense, since they can move Vogt around as needed (like the outfield now), and they may not be too eager to rely 100% on Phegley yet. I suspect Beane already has a good idea of where Clippard can be moved, or he wouldn't do the trade. Of course, he also traded for Johnson last year, so who knows.
  12. I wonder if this sets up a Clippard / Navarro trade? I'm not sure how much it makes sense for the A's not to flip Clippard somewhere.
  13. It's dropped off completely for almost all teams it seems. There's still some BIG names out there too in Shields and Scherzer, and a couple closers with barely a whisper about any of them in the rumors.
  14. Both are basically the opposite of what I'm looking for right now (although I'd take them at low cost obviously). I am looking for a young goalie and young defensemen (don't have to be established yet)
  15. I don't know what got into him all of a sudden, but man did we need it.
  16. Pillar should be able to outperform Ichiro, although the difference is probably minimal. If paying Ichiro one or two million provides more than that in additional revenue because of the name factor, then go for it. Otherwise, there's really no point.
  17. Wish he had picked a different week... (not that it matters for me this year anyway)
  18. Soler, Bautista, Bryant, Harvey, and either Cespedes or Betts probably for me.
  19. I don't think I'd even do it then. Holland + Miller maybe (mind you, I have different valuations than a lot of people do, so take that as you will)
  20. Ryu + Holland + Miller >>>> Dickerson + Despaigne imo
  21. Yeah. He'll almost certainly be traded though anyway, so it doesn't really matter.
