  1. Okay, poor choice of words. Our bench IDEALLY has those three.
  2. Pearce has been quite a lot worse in the second halves in his career. Maybe that's partly due to all the injuries, maybe he just can't physically handle playing every day for whatever reason. Regardless, this is an excellent signing at the price. Our bench right now has Pearce (1.5 WAR projection, could be higher), Upton (difficult to project, but likely 1 tp 1.5 WAR if used correctly and he hits more like he did in SD), and Barney (likely 1 to 1.5 WAR). Those are very valuable part time contributions for where we are on the curve. Now if we could upgrade Upton to Dyson (we should have no problem trading Upton given he's basically free), we'd really be on to something with the bench. Given the extra bat that kills lefties, I wonder if this is a prelude to possibly going after Moss? He's slightly above average defensively in the outfield, hits righties well, and probably comes at a reasonable price.
  3. I like this for Spittin actually.
  4. Apparently Jarrod Dyson could be traded soon. If the trade cost isn't too high, he'd be an amazing 4th outfielder (maybe even okay getting more at-bats in a platoon with Upton). He just came off a 3.1 WAR season. No power, but speed to burn and great defense.
  5. Atlanta is having quite an adventure at the free throw line.
  6. GSnarles, we have a winner!
  7. I'd like to get Tolleson. FA, should come cheap, good upside. Chacin too, if we could convince him to become a reliever. Doolittle would be nice, but there's really no reason for Oakland to trade him unless they get a nice return.
  8. Yeah, worth the risk imo.
  9. I'd be happy if we could retain Navarro as the backup, if the price is reasonable. He already knows the staff, the staff seems to like him, he's decent defensively, and for the most part he's not useless at the plate (last year aside).
  10. I'd be in favor of trading Donaldson now if we could get a return to help us this year. Something involving the Dodgers for Pederson and Urias for example (they wouldn't do it mind you, although apparently they are in on McCutchen), then sign Turner.
  11. Declines aren't usually linear. It's probably more likely that he improves quite a bit on last year. The swing is odd, and definitely needs an explanation. It seemed to me that he was throwing a little harder towards the end of last year though, which suggests to me it probably isn't the shoulder.
  12. Yeah, considering Thames just got half that, and a part time player in Jon Jay got 8M (1 year mind you), 11 per doesn't seem that bad.
  13. I'd rather go 5x16 than 4x18, but he is a really good fit. We may have to bite the bullet and overpay a little.
  14. Man, I'd love to add Diekman, but I have no idea how I'd protect him.
  15. I didn't see it mentioned here, but teams can trade all of their new international bonus allotments, and can add up to 75% of their initial capacity via trade.
  16. How crazy is it that the combination of the three of them have only put up 1.6 WAR? (Drabek and Wallace are -1.8)
  17. Doc retired because of a medical issue unrelated to baseball.
  18. That's just silly. If you aren't penalizing them the 1st rounder, then don't penalize them at all.
  19. He's 5'8 or 5'9, but even if it's not sustainable as he ages, he's only 25. We control him for another 4 full years. The height probably doesn't catch up with him until his early 30's, IF it does then. Flash Gordon was 30 when he moved to the pen, and he was much more of a string bean. He's probably the closest comparable. Even then, he was an all-star closer. Keeping him going forward doesn't mean retiring as a Jay.
  20. If they do that, we should try really hard to nab AJ Reed. On a further note, does ANYONE in any of our fantasy leagues even have a batting lineup THAT good?
  21. Stroman does NOT project as a career reliever. In fact, he projects at 3.2 WAR next year and a 3.68 era/fip. That would put him roughly in the top 30 amongst starters for WAR and top 40 for FIP based on this year's numbers, and that WAR number is probably low as he'll likely exceed the projected innings.
  22. I wouldn't trade either, unless we were ripping the other team off.
  23. Which is obviously why Rickey Henderson played most of his games in CF ... oh, wait.
  24. Yeah, that's what I'm hoping. If it doesn't happen, the 2nd rounder won't kill me. Seemed like a good risk to take.
