  1. @uphillgardeningbike of course.
  2. Can Flowers or Recker catch a knuckleball? Maybe Thole for Paco?
  3. But we like yours. It works the same way as looking thinner by hanging around with someone fatter than you are.
  4. Don't worry, it apparently gets better as you get older. You forget that you sometimes get confused.
  5. What you linked is just someone making guesses. Neither the writeup or the article even suggest any sources or anything else to indicate anything of substance to support it.
  6. They wouldn't have picked up Bruce's option if they were going to do an Upton like deal.
  7. Well, it had a 1M buyout. They obviously wouldn't give up an interesting asset for that amount though.
  8. No (and frankly we may never get access). It would be a lot of fun to play around with though. As far as UZR, more than likely it would allow us to determine some injuries to players that weren't necessarily reported.
  9. I kind of feel we shouldn't worry too much about the relief staff. Nab some cheap wildcards and see if one or two work out. The cost this offseason for relievers is probably going to be higher than the value teams will receive, as it seems to be kind of the new "in" thing. I think we should be targeting most of the cash for the offense.
  10. It's possible that FieldFX based metrics (which use actual measurements) rate Bruce's defense much different than what Fangraphs does (which uses generalized averages). I'm not sure that's the case, but it is a possibility.
  11. The part I don't really get is they talked about wanting to change the team composition and ways to score. Bruce doesn't do that. The only thing he has going for him in that regards is that he's left handed. I'd rather just resign Saunders if we're going that route, as I think a full offseason might improve his defense a little.
  12. If we take the LH platoon partner bit at face value, then the best fits would seem to be: Reddick Ethier (trade target) Coghlan Moss All would likely provide plus offense and defense in the platoon role. If we WANTED another lefty killer, Gutierrez would be a great target.
  13. Or perhaps they'll play Morales and 1st and DH Bruce?
  14. I suspect the Jays are waiting to find out what happens with the QO. The fact no one seems to know if he's going to decline it or not makes me think there's at least a decent chance he accepts.
  15. If he goes for that low a cost, we had better be the ones that get him regardless of whether Bautista accepts the QO. I wouldn't be surprised to see Reddick get up to 17M per on a 4 year deal. I don't think I saw anyone suggest 100M.
  16. I think Gibby is pragmatic. He'll do whatever the front office wants. He's not a brilliant strategist, he's a good manager of people.
  17. They may want to legitimately give Smoak a full time role next year. He's never been able to really put it together, but he does have some nice tools. I don't think it's impossible to see him put up 2 WAR in a full season where he's not being jerked all over the place with playing time. It may not be ideal, but if rolling Smoak out there gives us the money to put a stud in another position, so be it. Worst case, if he really bombs, bring up Tellez. If we really wanted to roll the dice, we could probably talk to one of the Texas teams about some of their guys. A guy like Profar as a super utility would be rather interesting, or one of the 1st basemen in Gallo or Singleton could be worth a shot.
  18. Man am I having a terrible week. I've had a lot of good luck matchup wise so far this year though (certainly didn't deserve to be anywhere near 1st place), so I guess it was inevitable.
  19. It's "Lawrie broke WAR" issues all over again.
  20. It's nearly impossible to get that player as a 4th outfielder, because they'd be a regular. Upton and Reddick combined probably give you a roughly 130 wRC+ player and somewhere in the 3.5 WAR range.
  21. What the hell are you talking about? Reddick's last 3 years vs righties he's put up a .297 average, .355 obp, .492 slg, .847 OPS and a 136 wRC+.
  22. Having one or two platoon bats is actually kind of ideal, if you have the right guy as the platoon partner. It means (for example) that you extract extra value out of your 4th outfielder. The Dodgers did this really effectively with Ethier and Van Slyke.
  23. I seem to recall that every offseason the projections change quite a lot as it progresses. It's probably too early to read much into them.
  24. McCutchen had problems with a swollen thumb last year (apparently he was gripping the bat a different way or something). I don't know why his defense was worse, whether it was aging or a nagging injury. Moving him to a corner outfield slot would probably be in the cards anyway with Pillar in center.
