They may want to legitimately give Smoak a full time role next year. He's never been able to really put it together, but he does have some nice tools. I don't think it's impossible to see him put up 2 WAR in a full season where he's not being jerked all over the place with playing time. It may not be ideal, but if rolling Smoak out there gives us the money to put a stud in another position, so be it. Worst case, if he really bombs, bring up Tellez.
If we really wanted to roll the dice, we could probably talk to one of the Texas teams about some of their guys. A guy like Profar as a super utility would be rather interesting, or one of the 1st basemen in Gallo or Singleton could be worth a shot.
