  1. I doubt giving up the DH would matter much. Assuming his bat is average for a DH (98 wRC+ this year), then you'd be talking about roughly 3 innings every five days, and being able to mix and match to the pitchers for those innings probably negates the downside. Now where it would matter, is the DH is kinda useful when you have a vet with a nagging injury - and we have a lot of those lol.
  2. You'd be crazy not to take him at 15M per year over 4 or 5 years. It's likely he'll get north of 20M though, which all things being equal, I'd rather give to Donaldson.
  3. Last year Starlin Castro put up a 94 wRC+ with 21 home runs.
  4. If you think the young guys could be regulars in the future, then you don't use them as backups next year. They either start in the MLB, or in AAA. I really, REALLY don't want to see Zeke next year. Maybe sign Saunders cheap to be the backup / platoon, since Teoscar could probably handle CF if Pillar was to go down. Also, if we're not gonna play Pearce at all at 2nd when needed, then trade him. Part of his value is in the lineup flexibility.
  5. Interesting, yeah definitely kinda screws over Otani's team, but makes more sense in general (and may be better for Japanese teams in general too, as stars who are posted could net them a larger payout).
  6. I think we're just waiting on L54's cuts and we can start. Good to see you still on the right side of the ground Hopefully it went well.
  7. I think I read that MLB and Japan are looking to make a new deal regarding the posting system before Otani is posted. I have to wonder if there could be a provision to allow higher posting fees, but some of the extra is split between the team and the player or something? More interestingly, maybe the player could be granted service time for playing in Japan or something if they're under 25 when they're posted.
  8. In terms of their skill set, minor league numbers, etc they both appear to be very similar players. Forget Urena's projected wRC+, that's just for this year, and he's coming up straight out of AA. I don't expect him to be this year's Gregorius next year or anything, but I could very easily see their career trajectories being similar.
  9. Click on your name in Yahoo (the one under your team name), select your WTPDL team from last year out of the list. It should show you your final roster. You can also just look at your team that shows this year, but it might have a player or two missing if they aren't in the database for some reason.
  10. Depends on his health, which imo is the only driving factor behind his bad offensive year. Defensively, he seems to rate in the upper quarter of qualified 1st baseman this year, so I wouldn't really call him poor in general. If his health issues really turn out to be chronic, that deal is going to look very, very bad. If he figures out how to manage them, he'll likely return into the 3.5 to 4 WAR range.
  11. I'm not sure he'd be a lesser one. That's probably a pretty good comparison straight up.
  12. He's just getting them out of the way early.
  13. Not quite the start I was hoping to see.
  14. I don't know if MLB would allow it, or if they could block it. Dunno how the rules are structured. What I expect to see happen, is Otani will be given the majority of his money in his final season before arbitration, which will dramatically push up his arbitration amount (assuming he pitches well).
  15. Loving that opposite field swing.
  16. Lol, Stroman changing his grip during the middle of his delivery like that is incredible.
  17. Forget Gohara, it's almost GLASNOW TIME!!!
  18. It'll be interesting to see how good his bat is. I know he's considered to be a better pitcher than hitter, but a team could possibly play him full time outfield, and have him also be the closer. That's assuming he's allowed to warm up in the pen between innings if he's a player already in the game, which I'm not sure is permitted.
  19. It may come down to the combo of which team has the most bonus pool money to give him, and which guarantee him the chance to bat as well.
  20. JD with another home run. Stanton who?
  21. With that said, I'd love to see us tie it up and really decimate Baltimore's pen before they head into New York for a really important series.
  22. In a lot of ways, this game is going perfectly. Good pitching performance in an audition for next year, and we're only 3.5 back of the #6 draft pick coming into today
  23. I don't know, but it's annoying as f***. They need to turn the mics off in those sections.
  24. The good and the bad of young players right there lol.
  25. That was a really weird swing. Can't believe the ball left the park and wasn't a lazy fly ball.
