  1. Aside from protecting himself against injury, the biggest advantage for Donaldson in signing early is not having to fight with other elite guys in that stupidly good FA class next year.
  2. Maybe not, but if he wasn't looking for a longer deal now, his timing to go to the front office to talk about it doesn't make much sense.
  3. He'd form a pretty incredible 1-2 punch with Kenley. I think Morrow is a FA (and this is the first year he's been healthy in a long time), Cingrani has been great over the last 2 months, but not especially great prior to the trade. Most of the rest of the pen is fairly forgettable. I don't know if Zobrist would waive the no trade, but he'd be a beautiful fit for us and shouldn't cost much to acquire.
  4. Yeah, that's annoying. With Pittsburgh and Oakland winning too, this win could cost us three spots in the draft, depending on the tiebreak.
  5. Well, the game means nothing. The wildcard game will be a sellout no doubt. I wonder if it might allow us to leapfrog them in the average attendance though?
  6. I'd kinda like to see Alford get a full season at AAA next year.
  7. Sign Otani, extend Donaldson, trade Osuna for Joc Pederson, sign Smith (he seemed to indicate he'd be open to that when leaving), trade for Zobrist, trade Morales (getting exposed on the breaking balls in a division with some wicked ones) and Pearce (he isn't being used right anyway) for salary relief. Kidnap Manfred, and torture him until he agrees to replace the blisterballs. Chances of ANY of that happening: probably next to zero.
  8. The question would be, can we replace him at the kind of value he currently represents? He may be a guy who you keep until free agency, then part ways with.
  9. The Raptors play a preseason game tonight at 10 (Sportsnet One).
  10. Goins almost managed to catch Bautista in SLG lol. I really hope he's injured or something, and it's not just age.
  11. MLB.TV is apparently free this final weekend (er ... tomorrow).
  12. Yeah, it is interesting. I took a peek at his Twitter feed though (always dangerous to do), and there's hints that he's still rehabbing. Whatever the injury was, I think it may have been a lot more serious than assumed.
  13. Romine just got out the batter he faced in a 3-2 game. He's gonna pick up a hold! Now in at C, and just missing 1B.
  14. So Romine is playing all positions tonight. So far he's missing only 1st, C, and P.
  15. I plan on repeating my regular season title! Bring it on!
  16. Chapman has his really good fastball today. That's just nuts.
  17. I wonder if Stroman had a blister issue again? It was kind of strange how he left.
  18. I don't know if I buy that. He still put up 1 WAR in a little over 1/2 season of PA in 2016. Maybe his leg injury was a lot more significant than thought.
  19. I love this part of it:
  20. As other people have said, it depends how people come on here. If you come in saying that Goins is one of the best players on the team because of the RBIs, and should be an everyday player, then call people stupid if they don't agree with you, you'll be destroyed. If you come in and ask WHY we think that way, you'll find plenty of people who are willing to help you understand. As far as cliques go, you'll find a lot of disagreements that we have with each other too. For the most part though, we support our arguments, which provides proper discussion as well as learning opportunities for all involved.
  21. Need a Spanky to English translator in this thread, stat!
  22. Week one is probably the best time to face him. Half the big name vets seem to have barely played this preseason, and it may take them a few games to hit their stride.
  23. We could look at playing Martin 1/2 time at 3rd if necessary. It would probably improve his bat quite a bit and keep him healthy, and the other half of catcher could be easier to fill this offseason than other positions. I don't think Gyorko would be absolutely necessary. Speaking of 3B, what the hell happened with Lawrie? He's practically dropped off the planet it seems.
  24. He's arbitration eligible in his last year, so will likely be non-tendered.
