  1. I wouldn't mind signing Smyly to a 2 year deal. He'll be out most or all of next year, but could take over for Happ in 2019. Sell him on our new high performance department to help with the rehab.
  2. He would cost at least one of Vladdy or Bichette guaranteed, plus more, regardless of whether or not we're taking on extra salary.
  3. The correct answer is very clearly JPA partnered with Barry.
  4. Why not just scrap it altogether and show the teams in batting practice or something? That would be way more fun to watch / listen to.
  5. I doubt it, he seemed to have a pretty good thing going. Sportsnet will probably ship him off to cover lacrosse or something now.
  6. This seems like an appropriate place for this:
  7. I think we were actually tilted towards a pitcher's park last year.
  8. Hard to say how much it will affect Estrada. That changeup has batters taking weird, off-balance swings. It might affect him a lot less than most guys, even though he produces a lot of flies.
  9. Probably because of the two years he had before that.
  10. They're apparently projecting 3/42 for Cozart. I wouldn't mind picking him up for that. He probably won't repeat what he did last year, but his walk rate has been increasing steadily and he plays great D. Let him play 2nd, and fill in for Tulo at SS when he makes his yearly DL appearances. Move Travis to the outfield, and see if that will keep him healthier.
  11. There is a guy who doesn't want to sit through a rebuild in Miami... I think Ethier would be a good option in the OF. Lefty bat, cheap, would form a nice platoon with Pearce.
  12. I still think Zobrist would be a nice fit. The Cubs really don't need him now, and have a bit of a log jam at both 2nd and the outfield - the two areas we have a need at. Hell, he'd make a pretty good leadoff hitter too.
  13. Hopefully we were asking for a decent prospect in exchange for taking on his salary or something...
  14. It's really too bad we have Morales on the team. Ohtani aside, Gattis is apparently a non-tender candidate, and reasonably priced. He'd be a nice guy to have as the backup catcher / full time DH.
  15. Yeah, I'm really not a fan of drafting catchers early in the draft. They take a long time to develop, and it seems like they fail more than other prospects do.
  16. This is the one time when it really may NOT be about the money. I mean, he was having his parents put his salary away for him in Japan and give him a monthly allowance ($1000 I think?). If he stayed in Japan two more years, he wouldn't have been subject to bonus pools and would have gotten a massive contract coming over. Everything right now points to him not giving a damn about the money. That doesn't mean we're at the top of the list though.
  17. He turned back the clock a bit on his velocity last year. I'm glad it's them and not us though, regardless of the figure.
  18. This is one way to make sure a 3rd quarter collapse doesn't matter lol.
  19. Interesting what he's asking teams to provide him in terms of information.
  20. I wonder if we're the other team in on Bryan Shaw? He'd actually be kind of interesting. One of those guys who's velocity is actually increasing, and might be more consistent than any other reliever available. Shapiro is also really familiar with him.
  21. The 2 min report tomorrow should be interesting.
  22. I wonder what the real reason for him being released is?
  23. He may not be self aware enough to even realize it.
  24. What he's asking for and what he gets may be very, very different.
