In theory we could use a Donaldson return to get Yelich essentially, without touching Vladdy or Bichette. I'd rather take on a bad contract instead, but that's always a possibility. 1 year of Donaldson for 5 cheap years of Yelich would be fantastic.
Cargo is a 95 wRC+ player in his career away from Coors and a significantly negative defender. I guess if he came cheap enough it could be worth taking a flier, but this really IS dumpster diving. I'd be just as happy signing Ethier I think.
Avisail has only had one good year (last year). Prior to that he was a negative WAR player in his previous 5 seasons/partial seasons. Ozuna has never been a negative player, and in his 4 full years 2 have been at 3.9 WAR or higher, plus his partial rookie season where he was roughly on that same pace. They are nowhere near the same. Ozuna would be an incredible get for us. Definitely worth taking someone like Chen for.
It looks like reliever contracts are going to be inflated this off-season (maybe due to a weak free agent crop?). If we did rebuild, we could probably get a ransom for Osuna.
Harvey had a terrible year last year, no question, but he was still averaging ~94 mph on the fastball. His off-speed stuff was still above average, just didn't have fastball command for some reason. In 2016 he put up about 2 WAR in half a season. IMO he's an excellent bounce back candidate.
This was always going to be a rough week for me. I was way the hell down on man games (you had something like 15 more games than I did). I expected to get blown out, so a little bad luck to only lose 5-7 I'm fine with. Looks like Fleury is almost back too, which will really help me.
I'd think it would have to be pretty close, which is fortunate because we don't really have that truly elite guy in the starting rotation (although I guess Kyle is close).
Me too. I'd rather just nab Liriano again, or maybe Anderson (along with Smyly for 2019). Signing Tyson Ross and Hutch for Buffalo would be fantastic too.
I think this is a great deal for the Yankees atm, but I'll also say that if they aren't able to reset their luxury tax this year, it'll also be an incredibly expensive one for them. They still need one or two starting pitchers at the very least, although I'd imagine they'll try to trade for one dangling Frazier as bait.
