  1. That article also stated that the money to Straw wouldn't affect the Jays signing other people. There could be more money available than we thought ... or cue the JP lie quote.
  2. We'd actually be a pretty good fit for Scherzer. The dome means better pitching conditions. Schneider pulls the starters early anyway, so he wouldn't be overtaxed. If the Jays are out of it at the deadline, he'd be pretty much guaranteed to get moved to someone in the thick of the race.
  3. It looks like Manny Cedeno, Ayden Johnson, Jhoan De La Cruz, Cristopher Polanco, Carlos Taveras, Deivid Coronil, Carlos Alvarez are still not signed from MLB's top 50 list. Polanco was already a guy rumored as signing with the Jays. It's possible they use the extra to try and snag one or two of those other guys. It's use it or lose it, so they may as well back the extra truck up one someone.
  4. The Dodgers have pretty much cemented a very long strike when this CBA expires.
  5. It's possible the agent played us. He may have told the front office that Sasaki would sign if they could up the offer, then went back to LA after they did and told them that he'd sign with the Jays unless they could add extra. It's also possible that the Jays felt the "risk" was in eating a relatively small bad contract and adding some talent to the minors in exchange for the chance at a franchise changing signing. Straw also seems like someone Atkins would like. He can't hit, plays good defense, and doesn't strike out a lot. Maybe the Jays think they can tweak something and get him back to where he was in 2021.
  6. Straw is clearly going to be our new DH. If you lose your mind, you might as well go all in.
  7. That's not cool. He's clearly at home watching Godzilla movies. He's thinking about maybe considering the possibility of cheering for Ghidorah.
  8. I'm going to laugh my ass off if the Dodgers now stash Sasaki in AAA as depth.
  9. I'll reserve judgment on the Straw component until we see how we utilize the extra international money. Hopefully there's a solid plan in place for it.
  10. I hate it when both players wear the same outfits. It's one thing if you're paying attention, but if you have it on in the background it kind of sucks.
  11. With Romero, I think they underestimated the market value of relievers (at least early on). That being said, there's a TON of good quality relievers still on the market, so maybe they actually got it right?
  12. They need to make the tax code and rules clear. If no one knows what applies and what doesn't, the benefit of the doubt should go to the taxpayer, not the CRA. The CRA can then fix the ambiguity for the next year.
  13. Stroman's velocity drop last year is a bit concerning. He's annoying on social media, but a pre-2024 Stroman could definitely help this team. Honestly, I'd rather sign Quantrill at a fraction of the price, but I'm not about to turn down upgrades right now (unless it comes at the expense of a big bat).
  14. Oh God that's depressing to see typed out.
  15. Yeah, I don't think the farm is nearly as bad as people are saying. We're lacking the potential star power, but being able to fill in a bunch of slots from the farm with major league regulars and buying stars could definitely work. A lot of highly touted guys struggle at the major league level anyway. I kind of like the Cards approach from a number of years ago. They drafted "safe" high floor guys and they hit on a decent percentage of them. They didn't have loud tools, but I think many of them became solid MLB regulars.
  16. I'm not sure there is a plan. I think the front office pounced on the opportunity to get a well above average player at a reasonable cost. His versatility means they can plop him wherever they need to. I actually suspect he may end up playing 3rd (as things currently stand).
  17. It would be a massive boost from the pitching staff, especially the pen.
  18. He's made some nice trades, but in the last 3 offseasons I believe the only somewhat impact signing we've had is Bassitt. Last year the team had a lot of very clear needs and none were addressed. None have been this year. We either need to go for it or rebuild, not dangle a hook with no bait and hope to snag something.
  19. I don't mind him trolling for deals, but at some point you want to stop catching bait fish and actually catch something big.
  20. It will always be Twitter, just like we will always play at the Skydome
  21. How sure are people that Roki would be the target? The top is stacked this year. I think I would probably keep Langford, but that's a very interesting proposal.
  22. Wherever it's from, it breaks up the forums and a lot of people may not scroll down to the bottom. It might be less confusing if that was changed (unless it's an option in our individual site settings I haven't seen yet).
  23. They can backload the contracts. As long as Rogers cares more about the actual cost and less about the luxury tax number it probably won't matter for a single year.
  24. I feel like the main issue is the "From the community" post which kind of breaks up the forum list. Maybe if that was made into its own forum and moved below all the other ones it would help with the flow.
  25. Maybe it's the TYPE of pitchers we're drafting that is the issue.
