    It could be worse. Check out the inning the Marlins are having atm! 11 runs scored, and Benintendi made all 3 outs (DP and sacrifice bunt).

    I doubt it. Teams would probably favor the positional flexibility of other players. You'd have to think Smoak could generate some interest in the next day or two if someone loses a 1B though.

    If he's having a 5 win season, we get a decent amount for him at the deadline. If not, he's probably injured and it doesn't change our team outlook. The money next year isn't gonna matter, unless we plan on being a big player in FA.

    Probably closer to the equivalent of pitching prospects.

    Yeah, my problem is more that I feel I'd be giving up the best hitter in the draft (and with age factored in maybe the best pitcher too, given all the teams probably have work to do before they compete). I suspect I'd be better off on my current path.

    There's basically two points. One is that your top 3 or 4 hitters are generally in the top 4 spots, and nowadays guys in the pen usually have better stuff than your back end starters. If your reliever can get through the first, then your starter will likely have to face those guys one less time in the game, which is actually a pretty big deal. The second point is that managers aren't gonna pinch hit in the first, so you can get the exact matchups you want.
