  1. Hech just made one hell of a play.
  2. There goes Story's 3rd home run of the game!
  3. Sort of, but a lot of it isn't really his fault. Ump misses an obvious swing, batter hits next pitch for a double. McCutchen forgets the #1 job of an outfielder, Sanchez gives up two passed balls and doesn't get in front of a third to block it. I feel kinda sorry for Severino.
  4. WTF is McCutchen doing out there? He just watched a ball bounce on the outfield track and didn't even try to catch it.
  5. OMG, whoever that was singing the anthem in the Yankees game sounded like they were torturing a cat or something.
  6. Really hard to say without seeing him play the field. My guess would be he could be a little above average defensively, so maybe 6 WAR ceiling? Purely a guess.
  7. Man, Sanchez just saved himself from a really, really bad day. That was labelled for his face.
  8. We pretty much had everything go wrong this year that could. I wouldn't expect us to compete next year, but I wouldn't be absolutely shocked if we were in the race next September either.
  9. The Oswing and contract rates are basically tied to the walk rate, so I wouldn't consider them additional issues. It is absolutely important, and something he desperately needs to improve. I'm pretty sure his defense at 2nd is already approximately league average. He does make a few extra errors, but they appear to be experience related more than physical ability so I could quite easily see him settle in a little above average there. If he fills an everyday super utility type role, then it'll probably be average at multiple positions.
  10. I have a feeling he's gonna have a good start tonight. Still pretty hard to start him this early in a week in the playoffs.
  11. That home run cost me a triple up in DFS
  12. The only real hole imo is walk rate. Most of the defensive issues seem to be at SS rather than 2B, and I think we'd all agree that he probably won't be getting a lot of time there moving forward. This is basically the equivalent of a player in their 2nd year out of college, and he's been league average.
  13. It would be great, but I think he'll get more than that given the lack of other high end options on the market. I'd guess 5/100 min, probably higher.
  14. Who would you see as a SP that would fit a 4 or 5 year plan like that? Keuchel maybe, Kershaw if he opts out, Corbin (definitely be buying high), but I don't think anyone else fits that bill. There's lots of 1-3 year stopgaps, but that doesn't go through to our competitive window. In 2020 there's Cole, Gray (depending on your feelings about him), Smyly, Wheeler, Bumgarner, Sale, and possibly others. That's the time to make a spash imo.
  15. A starting pitcher on a short-term contract, and a bunch of relievers. I wouldn't expect any big names.
  16. He was a college player who a few years ago made an adjustment that appears to have changed his outlook. He may be older but he's only had 4 years as a pro, so the age imo is less important.
  17. Law has a very specific type of player that he likes, and everyone else is s***. I'm pretty sure Vladdy doesn't fit that player type (in fact he may have him outside the top 50). Since people are more divided over Bichette and Biggio's future, I can see Law legitimately thinking that. He's an idiot, but I'm not sure it's just to be controversial.
  18. No question it's an uphill battle, but out of 24 games left they have 8 against us, 3 against the O's, and they do play Oakland 3 games (who they have to catch). They also have 2 games in hand I think. It's really a pretty soft schedule.
  19. They might be in the AL one. Their bullpen + Snell and Glasnow strategy is perfectly built for September with the expanded rosters.
  20. Deals with Spanky seem to get worse for the opponent as he gets drunk, not the other way around (fortunately for him).
  21. As amazing as it seems, the Rays might only be 7 games back of the 2nd wildcard after tonight.
  22. They really need to limit teams to pick 25 players per game in September. A billion unnecessary pitching changes grinds these games to a halt.
  23. If there was only an online platform where you could buy stuff like that off someone who did ...
  24. I could see giving him something like 1/15 with a pair of vesting options based on games started or something. With his injury history, 3 years guaranteed seems a little reckless.
  25. It's easy to think that ... right until you run into a week where the team only plays once, or the goalie gets injured.
