I think I've suggested this before in other leagues, but it was never adopted. All non-playoff teams go in the draft lottery, and each receive an equal weighting (or one that VERY slightly goes in favor of the better records). Make it beneficial for teams to win as many games as they can. The waiver wires and trade opportunities are deep enough in these leagues rebuilding teams aren't completely screwed if they don't get the top few picks. If regular season records were used instead, that at least prevents the tanking in the playoffs.

He was a college draftee who made some mechanical changes and suddenly took off. He's only had 4 minor league seasons under his belt, so it's not like he's been toiling down there for a decade or anything.

Boyd has had a quietly effective year this year. He's up to 2.6 WAR, decent walk and K rates.

I've been watching Whitecaps games for quite a while. The skill that Davies has at his age is completely insane. Sad to see him go, easily my favorite player.

The fact that the NWL uses a f***ed up playoff process is what's responsible for a 31 and 45 team making the playoffs, not the number of teams that make it. -

Messing up the stats doesn't really matter (it used to be 154 games anyway for about 40 years), but the lost games revenue wise does. Extending the playoffs offsets that, especially with more teams in the race late (which means higher attendance). I also don't think it changes rivalries. Right now I think we're in a sort of rivalry fatigue, where we see those division teams so much that it's no longer special. I actually like the extended playoff format of the NHL and NBA. I think there's something exciting about making a deep run, as well as being able to cheer for clear cut underdogs. I realize not everyone feels this way.

I'd laugh, but the Canucks are pretty much the same steaming pile right now. Looks like Pageau is out 4 to 6 months too. Hard to be a fan of either team right now. Go Raps!

This is already true of the WC anyway, so imo it's not that big a deal. Some teams will simply be at a slight disadvantage, but the benefits probably outweigh the negatives. I'd like to see them simply eliminate all the divisions, drop the season to 150 games, and let the top 16 teams into the playoffs. Let everyone play each other 5 times (5 games and days in a row), with the home/road series swapped each year.
