  1. Messing up the stats doesn't really matter (it used to be 154 games anyway for about 40 years), but the lost games revenue wise does. Extending the playoffs offsets that, especially with more teams in the race late (which means higher attendance). I also don't think it changes rivalries. Right now I think we're in a sort of rivalry fatigue, where we see those division teams so much that it's no longer special. I actually like the extended playoff format of the NHL and NBA. I think there's something exciting about making a deep run, as well as being able to cheer for clear cut underdogs. I realize not everyone feels this way.

I'd laugh, but the Canucks are pretty much the same steaming pile right now. Looks like Pageau is out 4 to 6 months too. Hard to be a fan of either team right now. Go Raps!
  3. This is already true of the WC anyway, so imo it's not that big a deal. Some teams will simply be at a slight disadvantage, but the benefits probably outweigh the negatives. I'd like to see them simply eliminate all the divisions, drop the season to 150 games, and let the top 16 teams into the playoffs. Let everyone play each other 5 times (5 games and days in a row), with the home/road series swapped each year.
  4. I'll take Derek Stepan If someone could please FB message Vanny for me, it would be appreciated.
  5. He was pinch hit for, he's done.
  6. Is this even true for the UCL, or just a guess? Regardless, even if both are true in general, they'd have so much variance player to player that applying it on an individual basis (like Ohtani) would be useless. He may be a slower than average healer regardless of his age, who knows?
  7. Lorenzen has a 197 wRC+ this year, with 4 home runs. Hitting over .300 with a .267 BABIP. Ohtani who? (Kidding, it's SSS, but still pretty impressive)
  8. There's a lot of players having blister problems right now. In fact, Cobb just left the game with one as we speak. Maybe it's the balls, maybe it's some of the new grips, who knows. I'm pretty sure minor league balls are different from the major league ones.
  9. The DBacks could use some Hader right about now. Andriese is getting lit the f*** up (and for some reason is still in there).
  10. I don't usually watch much NFL, but the worst team in the CFL probably beats them tonight. This is just embarrassing.
  11. What are they gonna do about it, ask that it be changed as part of the NAFTA talks?
  12. I'm watching and it didn't even register for me until you said that. I'm trying to figure out if that's a bad thing (unobservant) or a good thing.
  13. Sure would have been nice if they had announced the WAS-PHI game postponement BEFORE the scheduled start time so it didn't screw people's lineups over, especially given the weather there is fine. Apparently there's field problems that happened over the weekend.
  14. Good luck, that storm sounds like pretty much a worse case scenario.
  15. I'm not sure it even did hit him, not that it matters.
  16. Ramirez whiffed on the throw, and was trying to save face.
  17. If it makes you feel better, I expected Beeks to follow Stanek and it ended up being Chirinos.
  18. Well, a security guard is definitely supposed to be aware of their surroundings. It's kinda in the job description. Clearly an accident though. They'd be smart to build a spring loaded and padded chair right into the wall. As soon as the security guy stood up, it would automatically retract and security could simply jump into the stands.
  19. DK's football live scoring is all over the place. It's like it's spitting out random numbers for the overall placing.
  20. I'll bet your opponent in BORED loves him right now.
  21. Really nice at bat by McKinney, even though it resulted in an out.
  22. Well it would still eat up an option and put the player on the 40 man, so I'm not sure it would be much different than it is now. In fact, I suspect it would help most players stay up longer rather than the other way around. I have doubts a team would keep a guy on the 40 man specifically to play him 14 days a year for a few years. I think it's the solution that would result in the least amount of manipulation by teams, but I'm sure there's probably one or two guys who would end up worse off. In any kind of change, there always are.
  23. I find it hard to be too sympathetic for a player who intentionally lets the ball hit them, then has to be removed from the game because they got hurt.
  24. This ump in Seattle has a massive strike zone.
  25. The defense this inning is painful to watch
