  1. In the end I really think that Farrell when talking about "scouting based" it means things like the decision to play JPA and trade TdA. The Jays internal scouting reports have JPA as an adequate defensive catcher with one big tool in power. So why move a popular community figure for someone with similar tools by their rankings. This is where scouting based orgs sometimes (often) fail, they aren't taking everything into consideration...including current numbers and especially what is leading to those numbers. Human nature is that if you believe in a player it's going to take a lot to change that view and vice versa.
  2. "To Jeter" isn't the problem...to his left or right is
  3. just because it was started by an idiot it doesn't automatically mean it should be deleted. Jays have a curse...COTF!
  4. TdA in 1016 PA's away from the Jays org K-Rate 16.0%, BB Rate 8.76 TdA in 1061 PA's with the Jays Org K-Rate 21.3, BB Rate 6.79 (but we don't have development issues) Of the 56 Catchers who have put up 25 Career fWAR, I'll admit that none have had less than a 7.5% BB rate wiith more than 18% K's. But the following have had 2.5-1 ratio (which is where TdA need to be to have success IMO): IRod 70.7 fWAR Parrish 43.4 Javy Lopez 31.5 I'm a big believer in his bat, I realize that but there is also no player I've scouted on TV closer. I am not sure how the defense will play in the bigs, that is his only question mark IMO.
  5. 2005 draft - Ellsbury, Buchholz, Lowrie (40+ career rWAR) 2006 draft - Bard, Masterson, Reddick (23 career rWAR) 2007 draft - Middlebrooks, Rizzo, 2008 and beyond were very down drafts for them to this date. But that's a pretty good 3 year run right there. Since 2005 I'm pretty sure you can add up the Jays draft WAR and it won't total that 2005 for the Sox.
  6. is this your new crusade? I've always said that TdA would be the best catcher and I still 100% believe it...which sets my prediction for his career WAR at more than 21.8. He's back to a little jumpy behind the plate just like he was when he came back from the last injury but he settled down last time and he'll do it again. Avoiding the fluke injury is the key.
  7. How does Grant avoid any heat from Tercet here...he was by far the biggest believer in Hech's bat. I wasn't all that far behind by saying that I believe Hech was very much Alcides comp (which I still stand behind)
  8. Will be interested to see the media/blog community reaction to this. It's something that many on the forum began to realize last year and was met with some negativity but most that came over to this forum are now in agreement but on Twitter and the blogs it's not being seen nearly as much.
  9. Shrimp in it's purest form...4 pitch walk-off walk San Fran beats Boston
  10. I researched having him hang out with you in Vegas, it was $2K for the night.
  11. There hasn't been this kind of excitement for a career debut since Chris Carter
  12. several of the Yonge St. stores sell these. Couldn't tell you off hand which ones though. I could see Drake's General Store carrying them, I saw a WAMCO shirt there last time I was in. Also there are several stores downtown that can make a shirt in minutes.
  13. While usually this is an auto-label that goes on anyone that gets arrested, with Mason it was a label he had before the arrest. I wish his Trenton call-up happened before the game I went to it would have been interesting to see him that close. Here is what Sickels said after the arrest. Williams is a left-handed hitter with excellent athletic ability, speed, and defensive skills. Talent evaluators say that his biggest problem is immaturity: he irritated coaches and scouts with a substandard work ethic at times last year, failing to run out ground balls and demonstrating a poor attitude. It was felt that he was young enough to outgrow any personality issues, although this incident will resurrect makeup concerns.
  14. I think you are very very wrong. Like Lawrie, Machado has shown that he will crush fastballs, however the recognition of the change and willingness to swing for singles (which he happens to get some doubles) it isn't close. Now for the next step, laying off of the curve, which will lead to more walks (generally). I'd say Machado ends up awfully close to a Adrian Beltre type. Of course Lawrie can develop too...but I just see Machado being much better at making adjustments.
  15. Delmon Young as a slick fielding 3B
  16. Elmore pitched and caught tonight.
  17. if anyone is a believer in Junior Lake, I'd like to move him for an upgrade. Maybe Lake and one of my relievers for a top holds guy or any saves guy
  18. I could start the bidding on Buxton at an amount higher than what Dinger will have...and I'll still have more left than most.
  19. bad body could throw hard, no way he'd even get a chance to hit these days unless he failed miserably as a pitcher. I'm probably being too literal on a Ark poll
  20. Hornsby...a 2B that hits like No49 mentioned during his prime. Not that you could go wrong with any of these.
  21. There will be a lot of colleges running out of scholarships, you won't have a semi-legitimate high school player after the first 2 rounds. Honestly only way this ever happens is if the arbitration process starts in year 2 instead of 4.
  22. In a backwards way this is the most intelligent thing you have posted and it has a lot to do with the Jays inability to manage a 40 man. Lets look at the AL playoff teams and the spot starters they have used (age in brackets): Boston - Aceves (30), Workman (24), Webster (23), Morales (28), Wright (27). Tampa - Odorizzi (23), Archer (24) Detroit - Alvarez (24) Texas - Grimm (24), Tepesch (24), Perez (22), Wolf (30), Lindholm (26) Oakland - Gray (23) Most of these guys are prospects just called up to the 40 man or guys that have roles in the pen. I realize that part of the issue is that the Jays have young pitchers on the 60 day DL, but it's also a factor that the 40 man was so poorly built. Having multiple minor league relievers on the 40 man is just plain horrible management (and should be better than Thad Weber and Mickey Storey) your minor league depth should be starters with options, if your relievers get hurt that's who steps up and takes the role. This is the one area where the Jays should be better set up for next season with Hutch, Drabek, Nolin, Redmond Jenkins as depth (hopefully) with options and Stroman waiting in the wings. Of course the Jays now have decisions on relievers as now their one swing guy that they had in the proper role (Lincoln) is out of options, so you'll have to make a decision on him.
  23. Nope he was a Legacy Sports Group guy but he's a local kid for Boras. The way Boras ordered his comments you could read something into it (whether it's correct or not I'm not sure), he stated that his $5M signees have become stars in this league...then words that Bickford was something other than money. Could have been saying that Bickford wasn't worth what he was asking.
  24. oh yeah and he said that he truly believed that there was something non-monetary behind the non-signing of Bickford.
  25. http://pmd.fan590.com/audio_on_demand-3/Scott-Boras-with-Joey-Vendetta-jv-20130819-Interview.mp3 Early parts where he gives Beeston credit for creating a culture in the 80's where he made Toronto a destination to want to be seemed fake. great comments about PED's, essentially blames the process and governance for years. End point was those that had no true sets of rules shouldn't be chastised in the same way as those that have a set of rules that they are breaking. Comments about the draft are so true, believes that the current system hurts the premium players who will become stars. Believes obviously in free spending, however believes that baring that ability should have a way they can pool funds to get the exceptional talents (cites his $5M signees that have become stars). People can hate this guy but he's really one of the smartest guys out there that truly loves baseball (what he does for fun...watches baseball) and he'd be a better commish than anyone out there.
