  1. Goins isn't replacing Izturis next year...he'll be replacing DeRosa as the 25th man if he makes the team.
  2. #clearlyrushed
  3. if you call up Ricky do you keep him 40 man through the off season or put him through the embarrassment of DFA and hope he clears waivers again? The guy is such a fragile ego that you almost half to spend the off season giving him verbal handjobs.
  4. what is interesting is that in every single year of his career he's fell apart or at least been worse in the second half of the season...but then there is the bizarro Jays.
  5. Pete Walker out, Hentgen up to pitching coach...possibly Tom Signore up to Bullpen coach but more likely it's a bigger baseball name. #offseasonbuzz
  6. The choke continues, not like I had a horrible week but desperation moves might follow
  7. Cubs sporting a sweet .088 Batting Average (.115 BABIP) through 11 innings against the Padres. Still 0-0 heading into the 12th.
  8. Takes away those elite pop times though. Being a high school guy I'd probably catch him for a year in the minors at least. You could be right though, if he goes top 3 you aren't paying him that bonus to spend the full 5 years in the minors learning how to catch properly. He's been bothered by a thumb injury already so chances are you are correct though.
  9. the glove to the ground is disturbing though. Reminds me a lot of TdA after his injury but way more pronounced. Lots of time to improve that though.
  10. only sad in that Beeston and AA will still be here and we may have to hear another off season of "who should manage". I have zero problem with Gibby as a manager but I don't really care who manages the team
  11. based on that logic and the 15 reported posts against you already no one likes you...so does that mean you'll stay out of everyone's way?
  12. How hated will Beede be if he doesn't give the Jays permission to draft him again but the Jays get up high enough to draft him.
  13. Where did he do this, I missed this blog? So first of all he's going to compare 7 players on a 80% of the season vs. 100% of the previous season. By ZIPS Lawrie projects to an increase. Reyes projects to almost exactly half the WAR in about 60% of the AB's and Muni made up some of the difference. If Bautista, EE, Davis, Lind and Rasmus matched last years WAR it would put the Jays in much worse shape regardless of whether Reyes and Izzy matched last year's numbers. What he has to understand is that AA didn't build a team with proper depth and made a horrible signing of Macier because he thought he could build his depth on the 25 man by having players that can play multiple positions.
  14. I will say this...Pillar probably thinks more than the entire team combined. Put his head on Gose's body and it we'd have a legit player
  15. Our only hope for this is that he gets greedy in his first year of arbitration and the relationship between him and the F.O. sours. I would give up my left testicle to be allowed to sit through (and make comments) JPA's arbitration case
  16. The most frustrating thing about watching the Astros is seeing Castro and Corporan and how much I'd like either instead of Thole and JPA. I like the Astros spot in several positions already. They keep trading relievers for fringe guys, eventually a few fringe guys work out and either have trade value or they become set. Then if Rodon is as good as I think he is, they will have a true number 1 as well.
  17. he's still got a lot of guys with a million years experience patting his back and telling him he is doing okay
  18. Half (if not more) of a F.O.'s job is to be profitable. The win and they draw thing has been said forever but it's no where near as safe as selling tickets in the off season and if the team is complete s*** still drawing 40K every weekend (and this will continue for the rest of the year at least the 500 level will be crowded). What has happened with the team not even coming close to expectations, is poorer than hoped TV ratings (remember when they hinted that they thought 1,000,000 viewers might be realistic if the team does as well as they thought it would). IF the F.O. can't build a winning ball club, they may as well be good at building up buzz and selling tickets. Question will be, can they get the casuals to be excited again? I'd say no, but the Dodgers did it for years, as have the Cubs (of course both of those parks are an experience whereas the Rogers Centre is well...not. I say zero chance the Jays do a tear down and rebuild...this F.O. is now going to do a Dombrowski/Rizzo/Reagins pray and hope method. What we see is what we get, really only question will be whether the potential improved pitching depth will improve the team or not. There never was a plan B, there was no thought in this F.O. that this team would fail and if it did it would do so while burning the trade value of almost everyone they acquired. The minute the Jays do a completely bad PR move (trading a producing fan favourite to fill multiple holes and increase depth) I'll believe that maybe they are thinking about building a baseball team but until then I'll continue to think that they have idiots (including AA) running the show.
  19. How many fans are at the park without the trades?
  20. That pic is Kalfus and pretty much because I came up with the nickname it wouldn't surprise me if it became a section at Nat Bailey Stadium this year.
  21. Nolin's has already been burned. For Stroman it's a 40 man spot through the off season that he'd take up.
  22. Like almost everything with this team...I think think the re-assessment happens middle of next season.
  23. Conversations like these are great for everyone. Five years ago I had such a very basic understanding of analytics. Now, thanks to posters like Nox, NJH and sites like fangraphs I have a just slightly better than basic understanding of these numbers but I do understand what the numbers hope to tell us. That's really all I'd hope from everyone who is employed in baseball, sadly it doesn't happen. I think that there a large number of newer posters on this board that quote numbers without an understanding of them (and what sample size is) it's good to occasionally educate and maybe others will have a 20% understanding like me.
