  1. Yeah mainstream sports stations shouldn't get left behind. Let's see if they start posting things when the traditional stats are good but advanced stats show them to be more of aberration though.
  2. well if RJF, JF2014 and Boxy all don't like it...the Red Sox may as well not even play the season.
  3. Not that I disagree with the list but out of all the Fangraphs writers, getting praise from Cameron is kind of like getting the legacy fat chick from the best sorority on campus.
  4. Because that doesn't appeal to 95% of ESPN's target audience and won't get them hits. Unless you meant why did the OP post it here...it's because many Jays fans have an inferiority complex and feel that the Jays are ignored by American media.
  5. Could be...but 2009 is the earliest I've heard about people applying the data. Most credit Fast who started his data in 2011 i believe.
  6. Fun Grantland article on pitch framing and how the Yankees had the information in 2009 (and essentially didn't use it). Also some interesting quotes about the workings in a front office and essentially mirror the comments of those I have talked to that have interned in a front office...but in a much nicer way. http://grantland.com/features/brad-asumus-pitch-framing-dennis-eckersley/ the interesting points from the article...Alex Rubin appears to the actual godfather of Pitch Framing data. Who discovered it by trying to prove that Posada couldn't be a bad enough catcher to be worse overall than Jose Molina. This was a great quote
  7. Divorced in 2011. Had a few years of The Bachelor over baseball to make up for.
  8. Yeah he might stub his toe on the way to the podium for his Hall of Fame speech.
  9. 2011 was by far the draft I followed the most, at least from a college point of view. I had probably 15 video subscriptions to watch college games and of course I went to Houston to watch Rendon play. Mariners, Pirates, DBacks, O's and Royals entire FO's should have been fired on the spot for passing up Rendon (one series and I predicted HOF'er...I stand by that today). This is why you don't make pre-draft deals (Royals).
  10. BTS and I switching roles for a moment as he gave the reasonable answer, and I pointed out the OP's stupidity.
  11. are you aware how much better he was against RHH last year (only 15 pitchers in all of baseball struck out a higher percentage of righties last year)? And that he faced 50 more righties than lefties? Do you know that split stats are searchable?
  12. actually Admin was premature (again) we agreed to wait until pitchers and catchers report.
  13. He never should have been in the draft the second time. He re-enrolled in school, not to play baseball, just to finish his degree. He didn't know that would end his negotiations with Baltimore (Baltimore wasn't aware of this either). I agree that the Rays 2011 class is pretty bad in hindsight. Although 3 of the players hit top 100 prospect status (Guerreri would likely be debuting this year if it weren't for his injury). In the end it was 8.9M spent on 12 players that they would have been better off tanking all the picks and paying Josh Bell his asking price. At the time the draft had mixed reviews with most, as usual, liking the overslot guys, and not caring much for the slot and below guys.
  14. Was hitting 99 as a reliever. Sitting 91 and hitting 94 this weekend. Even though he dropped to to 89 in the 6th inning, there is still going to be teams saying "99 is there, he just needs conditioning". So much will change with the spring season anyway. I'd still avoid Bickford (just like I said in 2013, I'd rather get a guy that shows more consistency, he had some outings where scouts asked if this was legitimately the guy they were sent to scout).
  15. I'm not a Bickford guy at all, I thought it was an awful pick. That's why I said "plenty" and not me. While I'm not sold on Pentecost, I like his chances of getting to the bigs. Bickford's start this weekend drew great reviews and his Cape Cod high 90's velocity in relief will probably get him into the top 10. Top 10 in this draft is likely less than number 11 last year but the difference between them is hardly set in stone. I'd guess that no one is calling either move "good" in 7 years.
  16. Those weren't regretful trades...those were all my trades. There are some that make more trades in a week in comparison to my 3 years.
  17. What about Dansby Swanson? I thought he was one of the best bats I saw in college last year, and without Conde there he gets to show what he can do at SS (unless they have some Freshman SS coming in), there is no doubt he can hit, so if he can show some flashes of his 2B D at SS...he should be a top 5 pick (probably should be anyway).
  18. Essentially it came out to Brentz, Tellez and Pentecost instead of Bickford. There are plenty of people that would take the Bickford side of that.
  19. There is also the other aspect in the draft. You are giving up another player to get that player. That year (2011 I believe) the Rays and Jays had a shitload of picks, so for one of them it made more sense to take a chance that Norris would actually sign. I understand what you are saying though, prior to the bonus pools, there were often times where tough sign guys dropped to really late and at times $500K was the difference between them signing and not signing, yet teams spend $500K on s*** all the time. In looking back at the PG rankings he was #15. So slot money for $1.557M. Jays gave Norris just a 430K premium on that (and it was a year where many players got overslot money. If he was asking for $2.5M (top 5 slot money) they probably wouldn't have signed him and that's the head scratching type that happens.
  20. Very few have got $3M though. As of 2011 only 18 guys got $2M (whereas at least 20 a year get that in the draft). I'll have to go through the other years to see that updated number. Outside of that it's the difference of the Draft prospects having top advisers doing their negotiating for them, player having better options (going to college). So in other words, FA 16 year International you sign or someone else does. High School draftee, gets college experience and is paid again in three years, and wants first round money, when it's just you and them. Bryant without signability issues was ranked anywhere from 30 to 200 in that draft, so it's not like he automatically deserved the 1st round money he was asking.
  21. Looking at my initial roster I think i've only made like 6 trades. Only two I remember outside of this year's two deals are Wil Myers for Carlos Santana and Junior Lake for a mid 60's pick who became Chance Sisco. I traded Pujols, Rollins and Wainwright but I can't remember what those deals were. Judging by the talent on my team it wasn't much return. EDIT - Okay looked up some of my trades (and it's a lot more than 6, although most have been minor). These won't include prospects or picks Kipnis for Fowler and Infante Revere for Morales Bud Norris for Luke Scott (I certainly hope I got picks or prospects even if Norris is nothing). Fowler for Fiers Fiers and Soriano for some form of picks, waiver or prospect. Pujols and Wainwright for Carpenter and Jose Fernandez. Lohse for Soriano Rollins for Ethier (I seriously hope I got something else with that one).
  22. JR Graham is my prospect cut. Minny is forced to play him.
  23. I don't know what the answer is. I think if the International Draft does happen and the MLB teams take their facilities out (why would they need them if they have to wait until the kids are 17 or 18 to draft them) but the agencies might move in and create the facilities (or take over the current ones). I suppose the DSL would still exist so there will be some need for some of the parks. As Ang said, forcing the kids to get high school to be eligible for the draft might be good long term for the country, but there are going to be some f***ing hugely talented kids that have to leave the country to likely get there chance (or have American Football Player standards for graduation)
  24. Not even the best Jonathan Davis musician from the 90's though... http://www.eurweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/q-tip.jpg Tribe Called Quest was so underrated.
  25. I'd guess that a lot of the top young kids will get invites to North American Prep High Schools which in itself has it's positives and negatives.
