  1. Take a sports ethics or sports sociology class...emotions drive sport. Right and wrong don't matter, money matters. Reactions of fans matter for that reason. Beating your girlfriend gets 2 games, beating your girlfriend and video comes out is a lifetime ban. PED use and admitting it forgivable, lying about it gets you double suspension. It's funny cause you are one of the most emotion driven fans ever, and now you are going to go after the MLB for making a decision based on the outrage of the fans. Just 2 days ago you called for an umpire to be removed (suspended) from the playoffs because you viewed him to have some sort of agenda.
  2. I think Reynolds probably mentioned that he likes Dogg's posts. I missed the game but I heard that Harold did his broadcast troll job on Jays fans. When will people see that's all he does. His job is get people talking about the broadcast.
  3. emotion not ethics rule sport decisions. That's just what happens these days, and I'm okay with it cause it gives us stuff to talk about.
  4. It almost did on his near concussion. I'm not saying it was dirty but it's an unneeded play
  5. I posted in the around baseball thread but here is the NCAA rule that has worked very well so far. NCAA Force Play Slide Rule SECTION 4. The intent of the force-play-slide rule is to ensure the safety of all players. This is a safety and an interference rule. Whether the defense could have completed the double play has no bearing on the applicability of this rule. This rule pertains to a force-play situation at any base, regardless of the number of outs. a. On any force play, the runner must slide on the ground before the base and in a direct line between the two bases. It is permissible for the slider’s momentum to carry him through the base in the baseline extended (see diagram). Exception—A runner need not slide directly into a base as long as the runner slides or runs in a direction away from the fielder to avoid making contact or altering the play of the fielder. Interference shall not be called. (1) “On the ground” means either a head-first slide or a slide with one leg and buttock on the ground before the base. (2) “Directly into a base” means the runner’s entire body (feet, legs, trunk and arms) must stay in a straight line between the bases. b. Contact with a fielder is legal and interference shall not be called if the runner makes a legal slide directly to the base and in the baseline extended (see diagram). A.R.—If contact occurs on top of the base as a result of a “pop-up” slide, this contact is legal. c. Actions by a runner are illegal and interference shall be called if: (1) The runner slides or runs out of the base line in the direction of the fielder and alters the play of a fielder (with or without contact); (2) The runner uses a rolling or cross-body slide and either makes contact with or alters the play of a fielder; (3) The runner’s raised leg makes contact higher than the fielder’s knee when in a standing position; (4) The runner slashes or kicks the fielder with either leg; or (5) The runner illegally slides toward or contacts the fielder even if the fielder makes no attempt to throw to complete a play. PENALTY for 1-5— (1) With less than two outs, the batter-runner, as well as the interfering runner, shall be declared out and no other runner(s) shall advance. (2) With two outs, the interfering runner shall be declared out and no other runner(s) shall advance. (3) If the runner’s slide or collision is flagrant, the runner shall be ejected from the contest. A.R.—If the bases are loaded with no outs, a double-play attempt is made, and interference is called, all other runners must return to their original bases.
  6. Tsuyoshi Wada DFA'd by the Cubs. Screams an A's pick up as they don't care about velocity and his biggest issue was the HR ball.
  7. read my post...$$$ is the reason that they will change it. Same way Buck Martinez didn't change running catchers, but Buster Posey did. MLB owners won't wait for Correa to break his leg this time.
  8. How fun would it be to be on the rules committee this season. Make a rule that will increase double plays, but increase scoring and speed up the game.
  9. got a huge batch of franchise infielders in the majors right now...got to protect the assets. Every time a Tejada breaks their leg, there is an owner/front office thinking "what if that were Seager, Russell, Correa, Bogaerts, Lindor, Goins...etc"
  10. At least in 89 until about 91, maybe even 92 the tickets were scooped up by so many corporate types that only the 500 level was bad for this. It was frustrating to not be able to get as many tickets as I did in the past (I took in about 20 games a year in Exhibition stadium) but it was only fans without baseball knowledge that was frustrating...the real idiots didn't show up until late 92.
  11. Don't forget the most memorable post-season example.
  12. I guess I was wrong about the Longhorns. Always happy to see the Sooners lose
  13. The rules don't really exist to prevent this. They are vague and actually still encourage hitting the baseman. Butt, legs or chest on the ground prior to the bag should be the rule. With punishment for not following the rule.
  14. what? there are bad calls outside of Jays games, and this possibly isn't an anti-Canadian stance by the MLB?

  16. It is an ejection and the player at first is out in the NCAA. Let me see if I can find the wording of their rule
  17. It's time we completely get rid of the "breaking up the double play" slide. I fail to see why they'd make special rules for catchers when so many injuries happen at second base. Every other level of baseball has a sliding rule now except for the minors and majors.
  18. I thought it should have been a delete and ban actually. I'll leave this one to my fellow mods though. Starting threads that could have been put in several other existing threads is my biggest pet peeve
  19. Drinking helps him
  20. It is a red triangle at 3.0 vertical and -1.0 horizontal. These are from the umpires view and the triangles are the Texas pitcher pitches. It was not a good call and I will say inside vs. RHH is questionable and went against the Jays. But in comparison low pitches vs. LHH went the Jays way for sure. I had to go through explaining the chart to a friend who insisted they left pitches out. Here is what I made for him...hope it helps
  21. Charts just don't show it as that badly called. Situations may have been different but he's got a rep as an ump that doesn't like hitters taking with 2 strikes. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/cache/fastmap.php-pitchSel=all&game=gid_2015_10_09_texmlb_tormlb_1&sp_type=2&s_type=7&cache=1.gif http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/cache/fastmap.php-pitchSel=all&game=gid_2015_10_09_texmlb_tormlb_1&sp_type=3&s_type=7&cache=1.gif
  22. I was saying that I'd be starting Perez if he survives the first 9 batters, bring in Lewis. If he gets rocked bring in someone else and try Lewis in game 4.
