  1. Two separate points J4L19. He didn't get your inside joke (likely about the hottest player, which wasn't actually a joke)...then he made a statement that anyone who doesn't like this board is an idiot. See how pissed I am that I lost my Mod of the Year, now I am translating for people
  2. We have 365 active members (members who have been online in the last 30 days) and usually 75 members online during games (and another 300 or so guests). I honestly don't see that as a small core.
  3. hasn't Safeco given up the 2nd most HR's in the Majors this year? P.S. Playing you for 7 days is bad enough...I have to draw you for 10.
  4. ask about running inside the line, take the close call out of it.
  5. he couldn't play in the playoffs anyway.
  6. Pat Tabler said the same thing...at least Ang has the Mexican excuse. I will fix the title.
  7. Jays have like 15 players from their 25 man under control for next year. You don't give up much for assets for an "in case of injury" move. Not to mention there is an entire month to make a trade after the deadline if injuries become an issue.
  8. I guarantee you Tulo considers that an E. It's a ball that he should have had.
  9. Tyler Clippard and Steve Cishek were the two that Cameron predicted for the Jays. But it's Cameron so it's really not noteworthy. I'll just delete my post now.
  10. he missed your post about your first Slo Pitch game of the season.
  11. there is so little market out there so I can't see how the price is reasonable though. Unless it is a Tommy Milone type (and ugh...) who can replace Chavez in the pen and be there still for the spot start.
  12. Rays don't tend to ask huge for their rentals, especially since they value players considerably differently than many of the low end clubs. But the market for Pearce should be pretty widespread. I think Cleveland will have a lot of pieces outside of their top 10 that the Rays would covet. If Cleveland doesn't go for a big fish, I can see him ending up there.
  13. I forgot about Blues bars. I found one local place that was incredible but it's gone now. Make a stop at Buddy Guy's Legends, just to soak up the atmosphere. I hear that Buddy himself hangs out at the bar way more often these days.
  14. Why none of the Cubs vs. Sox games during the week, or Lollapalooza the next weekend (I can just see Big John being a Flosstradamus guy)? Stay in Wrigleyville after the game. All the tourists hear that it's packed after games and leave, and it's just locals with great beer prices. Leave the Sox game as soon as the game is over. I really like the Architectural River Boat cruise. As for the touristy stuff, I found Sears (now Willis) Tower to be a waste of money. I did enjoy river walk and the Magnificent Mile shopping is worth walking...but it's overpriced and snooty. Check and see if there are any other festivals going on downtown, five summers ago I found a great Comedy Fest and at some street improv show Tim Meadows, Bob Odenkirk and Steve Carroll just come in and made themselves part of the show. There was a great food festival too. You are from Alberta so I assume beef is your meat of choice...Ditka's restaurant was a surprisingly good steakhouse, and you get to see all the memorabilia . If you are all the beef your wife can handle we had vegetarian in our group and he enjoyed his meal too. If you want adventurous but busy (with reservations we were at a shared table), try The Girl and the Goat. I was apprehensive because there were things like a Pig Face and Tongue on the menu, but had the Bass and it was amazing.
  15. http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/15/health/baseball-ryan-freel-cte-suicide/ I do somewhat agree that it's not football and it's not hockey, but having 1 guy found to have CTE after a suicide should be enough to put a league on edge. You must at least show that you are putting a best effort forward to protect players. Things like pitching helmets will eventually start in the minors and likely become a grandfathered rule. As for the game being the same, the game is full of changes to take away the pitching advantages. From removing the doctoring of balls, lowering the mound, to the introduction of the DH.

  17. I'd like to introduce you to Prince Fielder. Thole isn't even the worst hitting catcher (check out Erik Kratz's numbers)
  18. The dreaded 918.00 ERA game
  19. Because the NFL is once a week and helps support the bar industry. There is zero doubt that the length of baseball games affects the number of fans it has. I think it was 2002 (when games were probably 10 minutes shorter than now) that something like 29% of baseball fans thought the games were too long, and about 45% thought that the delays (pitching changes, guys calling time, manager visits) were minor or major annoyances. Those are fans of the game (I think there was a number of games watched per year attached to the poll) non fans have often cited length of games as an issue. Basketball is on the rise right now, as is Soccer. MLB should have some concerns about it at least. Diehard fans that will sit through a 20 inning game completely sober are not the issue, it's the casual and non-fan that they need.
  20. Baseball TV contracts aew in the billions of $$$. No way they cut commercial time. No anthems makes a f*** of a lot of sense too but that will never happen either
  21. Three pitchers in an inning...1 of the three cannot be used for 3 games. I think it is a stupid rule consideration but it is the facing one batter stuff that casual fans get annoyed with. Must face two batters or go on the DL (maybe a 7 day DL) is another thought but I can think of a zillion situations where this would be stupid. He has been put in charge of speeding up games though and this is the one of the reasons it is slower
  22. It is not against any to start a thread (if it's happening again and again and the person gets a warning and continues to do it we do something about it). If a mod wants to merge it they will (I won't at this time as I want my message to be seen here). If we are to warn King, we will do it. If we hear anymore about the appropriateness of the thread, the offender will be banned (asking me a question about the rules will be allowed). When I get home I'll see if the thread returns to be about baseball, if it doesn't maybe I'll merge it with around baseball.
