It's just another case of Minor League defensive reports being wrong wrong wrong. I was probably the highest guy on Pillar on this board saying that he could be a 100% platoon guy and play all 3 OF positions as the 4th OF adequately. He's now an 81 wRC+ vs RHP for his career and just 91 vs. LHP, if he's not one of the top 3 (2? 1?) CF's defensively I would have seriously overrated him.
King, I know this is a Jays update, but do think you could add a Mejia Watch in future daily updates? He's broke the post-realignment (1963) hitting streak record already and sits at 47 games over two leagues.
even that's a stretch. He's still growing. He put on 10 pounds this year and grew 2 inches last off-season. Let him mature naturally, see if he can even stick at SS as he grows and September 2017 we likely see him. If anything this year he'll go back to Dunedin if they can get into the playoffs this year.
I would say it's way more realistic to say he'll be a September 2017 call up. He has to be added to the 40 man the following off-season anyway. You usually don't see young catchers spending much time with the big club when they don't have much of a bat...and hasn't caught anyone in the org before Spring Training.
I wondered if we were approaching the all time K's record for both teams...and found this record breaking game.
On July 9th, 1971 the California Angels struck out 26 times and the Oakland A's 17 times for a total of 43 strikeouts. The A's won the game in the bottom of the 20th 1 to 0.
Vida Blue struck out 17 in 11 innings and then the A's closer, Rollie Fingers struck out 7 more in 7 innings.
Got to love the starter going 11 and closer going 7 innings.
I'm watching the game on the Yahoo Free Game of the Day feed. It's so frustrating because it is a pitch behind Yahoo's pitch by pitch feed. I can see the result before the pitch is thrown.
Yeah that's a tad better than what I offered. And SG...I'd trade you a reliever if you'd stop asking for Thornburg. Strickland and Wilson are available.
I really want to see Hutch succeed, so hopefully Searge can spin his magic on him. Even if he's successful, there is nothing but love coming from me about this deal. JJ Cooper said it best, dump Liriano tomorrow and I still like this deal.
27 ks in 21 innings as a reliever in OKC this year. Very much a hitters park. He's been hittable but getting K's. He's likely going to be in Buffalo this year as Feldman takes Chavez's role.
