Taking three of four already is huge. If they can finish it off by sweeping the Red Sox at home, that would make a pretty big statement. It would also give the Jays a little breathing room heading into the Yankees/Rays series coming up. If they then drop two of three to New York or Tampa, it wouldn’t be the end of the world because they’d have already banked a really strong series against Boston.

He's looked pretty good his last two starts and he's going to be fired up for today's game with the team back in the playoff chase.

I think Scherzer still has the requisite talent to be an effective starter when he's healthy enough to fully air out his pitches. I recall he received something like 3 or 4 injections in his thumb recently which is crazy and sooner or later I expect he's going to suffer a catastrophic career ending injury.

Agree on all counts

Waiting on the Waldron DFA

Sewald will be on the team tomorrow so they'll either DFA Waldron or option Chase Lee I would guess.

Bottom of the bullpen is looking rough though. Would like to see Mantiply come back. He was throwing bullpens in late July but I haven't heard anything since.

But with Scherzer and SWR in the rotation we need some length too. The injuries to Trey and Taillon are killing me. Maybe Waldron survives because he can provide "length"?

We really need one more solid DFA pickup.

Maybe Miles moves back to being a bulk pitcher. He and SWR can tandem the 5th starter duties.

And then Sewald and Flu can take over the 7th inning role.

Arrighetti is back on the hill for Buffalo this weekend so maybe he could help soon.

I feel like where Miles is on his IP, considering his injury history, he's probably a high leverage 1-2 IP reliever at this point, to account for Hoffman being moved.

Valenzuela is an idiot. Pointlessly challenges a pitch nowhere near the zone and loses, and then has to let a likely strike go which would have ended the inning because he can't lose the second challenge if he is wrong. What a moron.

Is Brandon Valenzuela throwing this game?

Holy s*** what a disaster for him this inning

Horrendous challenge and then boxes out two strikes and fails to challenge a strike three
