jmomcc Verified Member Posted June 29 Posted June 29 I do think Vlad should have been moved down the order a month ago and told to work on his plate approach. I do believe that the highest paid player sets the culture, and players seeing him not have to be accountable for his approach makes them looser.
DownSouthBlueJay Verified Member Posted June 29 Posted June 29 Hindsight is 20/20 we all were expecting the Jays to have a 2025 type year.Unfortunately injuries happened and our 500 million Dollar superstar forgot how to play baseball.Plus everyone else regressing all at the same time especially Springer.Pitching has been mostly solid this year its what kept us in it till this point.

They have had 1 great year, 2 good and the rest s*** in their tenure. 2016 they did a good job. Well all they did was sign J.A. Happ but that move got them back into the playoffs. Otherwise kept the team functional and operating well. 2017/2018/2019 bad 2020/2021/2022/2023 good 2024 bad 2025 excellent 2026 disappointing I got 5 bad 6 good
jmomcc Verified Member Posted June 29 Posted June 29 I would break it down into ‘I don’t believe in this front office because they can’t develop pitching’ and now ‘I think they probably can’. Now, I’m finally in the second camp and I like their previous drafts, it would be bad time to get hasty with the front office.

I think they should rehire Charlie Montoya as a bench coach. He had success in getting through to Vlad during his time here (another post mentioned how he was on his ass for hitting too many ground balls, etc).

Vlad is just being indulged at this point and not only is he not making big changes to address this extended awfulness, he's still f***ing around - not running properly to first, still clowning around with the jacket and Gatorade acting like this wretched season is all a big laugh. When other players see the face of the franchise suck that badly (by his standards) and still just get away with it and fool around, then you can bet they drop their focus a percentage point of two. While I don't think Kirk blanking him with the jacket was aimed at Vlad personally, I was glad to see it, because this team needs to stop the BS and get mad. And I hope that the message got through a bit to Vlad. jmomcc 1

I saw something on MLB the other day too with Pujols breaking down what he thinks isbwrong woth Clads swimg amd that hes wrapping the bat too far behind his head and consequently the bat head is taking longer to get to the hitting zone. Pujols himself said he used to go through stretches like this and he would look at his stance from the 1b side on video and if he saw the bat head poking out behind his head when he was waggling the bat, he knew he had to adjust his hands. Im probably explaining it poorly but it made sense when they showed the video

It's a night and day difference in not just stats, but underlying skill numbers as well.
