Why do you have to "gas" the pen? Scherzer looked bad from the first pitch. They were crushing him. If you're willing to stretch him to save arms, why can't that same logic be applied to a relief pitcher? Why not bring somebody in who might be able to stop the bleeding, and stretch their innings if needed, if they're effective.

That was one of the possibilities, and would have brought up the top of the order, and avoid the DP. 

Would you rather have Eloy batting with 2 on and 0 out or Schneider with 1 out and 2 in scoring position.

I can't blame Schneider, he was going for the win, not the tie.
