Munoz wasn’t shaky last year, and Bednar is coming off a 2-WAR season. While Bednar has looked a little shaky at times, he really hasn’t been that bad beyond the high walk rate and 4.15 ERA. The strikeout numbers, FIP, and WAR still suggest he’s been fine overall.

Hoffman is the one who looked shaky for pretty much all of last season in the closer’s role, and it’s fair to wonder whether Game 7 last year has had more of a lingering effect than people want to admit. I still think he can be an effective arm for the Jays, just not necessarily in the ninth inning. His 2023 and 2024 seasons with the Phillies show a very different version of the pitcher.

His 2025 numbers are pretty much the same as his numbers with the Phillies, with the only real change being… an extremely ballooned homerun rate.

Not sure why exactly that’s happening but that’s the reason he’s stunk

What's Schneider doing wrong here? lol... he isn't going to throw him under the bus, nor is he going to say anything about the situation immediately following an L like that. He's just a mediator and clubhouse boss man, these decisions come from higher than his pay grade, I'm sure it's being discussed with the staff and FO, but he ain't sayin' s*** after that game.

It's the role and something psychological.

maybe try and change his pitches around, I haven't checked but is his FB getting hit?  or more on his breaking pitches?  none this matters though if he can't throw strikes

I prefer to use results when it spans a long sample size.  Glory posted Hoffman's number since May 2025

The jump in HR rate from 2024 to 2025 is ridiculous. You’d think it has to be a statistical anomaly, yet it has continued this year

Meh, 2 in 9.1 IP can happen to anyone, even the BB% is inflated by 2 IBB's in this tiny sample, the BABIP will come down 200+ points and xERA and xFIP is to drool over, somethings got to give here. He's been really good under the hood, just has blown up spectacularly at the wrong times so far, obviously as the closer.
