Mets owner saying this might mean something (or nothing).

Was just about to post this.  I have no clue what this means exactly.

Gonna guess he wouldnt be hinting at anything if he wasn't ready to announce something big

Sounds like he doesn't know anything and is waiting on the decision as well...a reference to waiting for a new pope to be elected and they release smoke when they’ve made a decision.

While I would like Tucker, him going to the Mets isn't the worst thing. If he does, Jays will definitely go all in on Bo and resign him.

This way instead of us getting Tucker and Bo going to the Red Sox or even Yanks, we get the top FA player going to the NL and the #2 to us instead of the top to us and the #2 to another ALE.

We need either Bo/Belli...

Which I literally said in that we would pivot to Bo and I'm positive they will pony up for him if Tucker is indeed gone.

Bo doesn't really have a spot available on this roster any more with Kaz signed, unless you wanna move Clement, which I sure as hell do not. Let him go to Philly and throw the ball over Harper's head for 8+ years.

We just gotta hope Bo doesnt hold any resentment being made the 2nd choice and signs a short term deal with another team (Phillies)

Clement would go back to the super utility role plus be the shortstop vs. lefties.  He would still get plenty of at bats.

Signing Tucker creates a logjam in the OF just like signing Bo would create a logjam in the IF.  I doubt signing Okamoto would take them out of the race for a player of Bo's calibre.  It would be like signing Morales and saying too bad to Edwin lol.

I'd expect them to trade Lukes if they get Tucker, maybe find someone willing to take Santander if the Jays eat some of his salary. Lot easier to clear some space for an OFer imo. Especially with Varsho likely gone next year also.

To me Ernie has earned the right to be entrenched in the lineup as the every day, but if he's happy to play super utility for another year I guess sure. I just really don't like Bo in the field, guy would be a great DH but that's about all within the next few years.

Tucker to Toronto is guaranteed now.

Cohen would not say that if he was going to the Mets. He would know what was going on if that were the case.

How so? It's lit, the fire is lit?

Seems like a stupid thing for Cohen to post regardless. Most fans were only going to take it a certain way (there are over 1.4k responses to it in an hour and not everyone is aware of the Pope reference), and Mets fans have been hating their own front office all winter so even teasing this by giving fans the wrong idea seems really counter productive on his part.

At this point I just want it to be over, even if it means Tucker to the Mets. Just make a decision and let's all move on to something else.

Needs to be white smoke. Dark smoke, still no decision… ;)

Looks like Tucker / Mets is a go, unfortunately. Pretty obvious given Cohen's X post.

Onto.Bo it is!

Not pretty obvious…. It’s a papal reference to awaiting a decision.

Some context from the Soto chase.

Before the signing of Juan Soto to the Mets in December 2024, owner Steve Cohen did not tweet about the potential signing directly, but he did make comments about the situation, including one in which he admitted he thought Soto would re-sign with the Yankees
.
His social media activity around that time included:
  • A public comment in late November 2024 where he was asked about the Mets' pursuit of Soto and said, "We're gonna find out. It's either yes or no. There's no in between and time will tell".
  • Reports indicate that during one of the meetings with Soto and his agent Scott Boras, a frustrated Cohen reportedly said, "Why are we even having this meeting? It sounds like you're coming up with a lot of reasons why you don't want to come to our team!".
  • After the meeting, Cohen told Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns he believed Soto was "going back to the Yankees".
  • Cohen was "blown away" when Boras called him the next morning to accept the Mets' offer.
  • After the deal was finalized, Cohen tweeted a message thanking fans and commenting on the boost in ticket sales, but this was after the signing was announced.
So, while he was active on social media in general and made some public comments regarding the pursuit, he did not leak any information or tweet about the imminent signing of Soto beforehand. He was actually surprised by the outcome himself.

Guy is a clown for tweeting about this at all lmao.

Tucker absolutely has to sign with the Jays (or Dodgers) now. Cohen referencing something that hardly any of his fans would understand and getting their hopes up only for Tucker to sign elsewhere would be incredible theatre.

I have never thought the Jays would win any of the big FA ordeals we have been involved in, going back years to the Japanese pitcher ICR to the more recent, Ohtani, Yamamoto, Soto and Saski.

This time however, my instinct for the first time says the Jays could/should win this one. If we can’t win this one, we might as well change strategy and spend money on 2 lesser players etc since waiting so long and allocating the $$ time after time leaves us without all the Lazy boys when the music stops.

Jewish owner making Catholic Church references in a vague sports related Tweet. When he literally doesn't know what's happening either. Odd indeed.
