He's too young to relegate to a DH only. Don't forget he missed a lot of time from the suspension. He would have been rusty coming back. I would imagine most of those errors occurred before the suspension as Orelvis only appeared in 11 games post suspension and 63 games prior to the suspension.

I mean I doubt we offered him 5 or 6 years, but I think it's reasonable to think we offered him a 3 or 4 year deal in the $70-$100M range and he decided to stay with the Mets on a 1 year $30M pillow deal. Is it? It never made a lot of sense for us with a franchise 1B already in tow. It reeks of a situation where one or more of the sides were being used as leverage. It made sense for both the Mets in their Alonso negotiations and the Jays in their Vlad Jr. negotiations. G-Snarls 1

I agree. I believe that Boras fabricated the Jays' interest and the Mets didn't buy it. They weren't going to bid against themselves.

I don’t think the Jays’ interest was fabricated, i’d bet they had a larger deal on the table but Boras was trying to use us as leverage against the Mets and it flat out didn’t work. Blue balls Verified Member Posted February 7, 2025 Posted February 7, 2025 Jay’s interest was probably real. Alonso’s interest towards the Jays was not. We were his fall back option and we helped him get enough from the team he wanted to play for to go back there. G-Snarls and Stangstag 2

I will be happy when Bregman breaks the vicious cycle. :)

Agents leak that kind of thing all of the time.

Sometimes we are, and sometimes we just legitimately finish second for a player.

Mmm yeah kinda. It feels like it was Mets or bust for him. I think we probably did offer more years or dollars, or both

I understand this take Grant, but you said we were never in and the Cubs were bidding against themselves and didn't fall for it? Though reports did say we had the best offer on the table, as you said, we don't know. Yet at this point it's obvious Toronto are trying? I'm not catching your ngle here? John_Havok 1

I don't really have an angle. Alonso never made sense for us from a roster construction perspective and I don't believe reports. Too many people on these forums treat these reports like they are factual. I do believe that we are in on Bregman because he makes far more sense for our roster. Spanky99 1
